Saltist vs tekota A ? Pros/ cons

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone out there has used the new tekota A reels. I am familiar with the older tekotas have a few coppers set up on them. I run mostly diawa saltist reels with line counters and am very happy with them. I just wondered if anyone ran the new tekotas last year and how they compare to the saltist... I'm in the market to get 3 or 4 new reels trying to get some info before the Niagra show.

I have been running Saltists since they came out with zero issues. They are both great reels and worth the money. The only pro I see with the Saltist is the drag adjustments are better when you adjust it.

I'd be interested in hearing some feedback on the new Tekota reels as well. The first thing that we did with the old ones was send them to Tuna Tom for the drag upgrade. Which seems silly, but made all the difference. It would be nice to see them perform flawlessly out of the box though.

x2 on the Saltist, of course, but you know that.

The numbers on the line counters are much smaller on the new ones, need glasses now to read them!! They have a lower profile on the new ones that might cause problems in some rod holders like cradles or down east holders.

I don't think the new one hit the market until late last yr. so your going to be hard pressed to get any feed back on them. I did look at them on fishusa.com and they do look good. they have a faster line pick up and lower profile. I have read the counter numbers are smaller.

I think the Tekota A reels came out late summer/fall time, so probably not may guys have any experience with them. A buddy was running some up on BOQ this fall. He seemed to like them. Time will tell.
