NY western late season

Recommended Posts

With the unusually high temps, no wind, and FNG's killing spots yet again.... The late season was a grind... Figures that this cold weather finally hits with 2 days left... Back at it tomorrow for the last day.

Gotta love the coot.... They make great off-season training birds.1227180902.jpeg1227181302.jpeg1230181145b.jpeg1231180903.jpeg0109191316a.jpeg0109191628a.jpeg0109191444.jpeg1230180942_HDR.jpeg29303.jpeg

Last day was surprisingly good. I've hunted this spot 4x this season and all I saw was redheads and stale mallards.
After the past two days cold and wind, I figured I try it again in hopes for some new targets to show up...
Wow was I surprised! Lesser Bills, Greater Bills, Redheads, Blacks, and Canadas... Great day with some good friends... After today, I'm good till next season... Now comes Upgrades to the MissD, working on some training with my Jackson and maybe making some new decoys for next year....be well guys!0111191531a.jpeg0111191531.jpeg0111191350b.jpeg0111191513.jpeg

Looks like a fun day. We just picked up a fox red lab puppy a few weeks ago, so with the next year to work with him, I'll be back in the game next fall. Late season was always my favorite time. Particularly back when it was ten days and I could hunt each and every one of them. I cut my teeth on Keuka - redhead central. Every year gets a little bit busier and a little bit harder to get out, but the new pup gives me a great excuse. Hunting without a dog just wasn't the same.

Are you making your own dekes? I'd love to get a better look at them if you have some pics to post. And I ordered the fillet board for the boat yesterday, thx.

Gator.... Where did you get the pup? Waiting on two different Kennels for a MaleChoc .... I'm pretty particular about lines and looks....Jackson is a Koket Creek Lab ( Erie PA). I like the blocky English look... He's not a field trial winner, but very easy to train...
I'm also looking at Great Lakes Labradors... English / Hunting lines....
