Planer Board Mast - Homemade

I couldn't see spending hundreds on a mast so I made my own out of a 6' piece of galvanized fence post & 2 electrical wire spools with a thru bolt for handles. One of the handles is missing because I needed it for another project. :shock: I got the small pullys at Home Depot. The post fit exactly in the bow seat mount on my 16' Starcraft. Hey, don't knock it, it worked for me. :D

Looks good. What size bolt did you use for the handles? You may want to consider putting a piece of small diameter tubing (plastic or metal) over the crankbolt shank and maybe a washer between it and the head.

I'm with you too Bob. I made mine years back and I think it would compete with most anything you could buy. I used 1" S/S pipe and parts I machined form HDPE on my woodlathe and a dremel tool. It was labor intensive with the tools that I have but satisfying when completed. Here's some pics:
