Drilling through cavitation plate

I am having an issue trying to figure out how to hook my evinrude etec. To my kicker. The way my boat is designed it is. A nightmare. I saw a pic of an ez steer mount on this site that would work. My question is drilling through cav plate. Yay or nay.

So i hav a fishmaster and it uses exactly what is in the cabelas link below. I showed a pic i have of it in the transom of my boat. I think u have a starweld....aside from motor brand hookup questions i dont see why it wouldnt work.

Fat trout I have my kicker on an adjustable mount that sticks out behind the transom. It also puts the kicker mounting point below the edge of the transom

I see what your saying. While i have not done it i see no issu drilling thru the cav plate. I have had boats with this done (not by me). I saw no ill effects.

I have drilled holes through the cavitation plate and mounted a trolling plate to it. I see no reason that it would hurt anything.

I have also on my old merc. I just hate to do it on this new etec

you might find a strap with a fitting that will go around your big motor like it does on the little motor. I just checked on ebay and they have the brackets. they even have one made for the etec motor.

Sherman brown I may have found a bracket for the etec last night .The problem I have with the bands is it’s all plastic rite to the cav plate on the etec

Don't do it, I did it to my kicker and it broke within a month there just isn't enough meat in the cast plate. You might get away with it if you built a separate plate and attached that to the cav. plate then attached the ball mount to the plate. I tried just mounting the ball in the cavatation plate and it bent the plate and broke the fin.

I think I have found a bracket that bolts to the evinrude motor at ez steer. I have to confirm it tomorrow with them

I never understood why people mess with EZ Steer in an outboard to outboard set up. These are way easier and a lot less expensive.

Trophy seeker. I really can’t use that setup on my boat. Hard to explain but my kicker is on an adjustable jack plate. When in position the transom is in the way
