How much mono backing for Okuma cv45DS wire setup

Anybody know how much mono you put on a Okuma cv45DS before the 1000' of wire so the depth counter reads accurately? Thanks!

Well it's gonna depend on what lb mono you're putting on first of all, nobody can answer without knowing that. Most people use 30 size reels for wire so it's gonna be tough to find an exact number for a 45 size reel anyway. But here's how you do it with any lb mono or braid.

I'm assuming you're spooling up 2 identical reels at the same time....
1) Tape wire to spool and reel on all 1000'
2) attach mono to wire with Albright knot (or other knot of your choosing)
3) reel on mono until the spool looks full.
4) measure out 100ft on your lawn/driveway/etc
5) walk out your reel to the 100ft mark and check counter.
6) repeat step 5 adding/removing mono until your counter says 100 at the 100ft mark
7) tie mono to spool of 2nd empty reel

8 ) zero out counter on 2nd reel and reel on all of the mono.

9) Note the number on the counter when the mono is finished (we will call it 'X')

10) continue reeling all the wire off reel 1 onto reel 2

11) Reel 'X' amount of mono onto reel 1

12) Attach wire and reel on all 1000'

Now you have 2 perfectly full/tuned reels.... sounds like a lot of work but it really shouldn't take more than 20 mins to do it right. These same steps will work for doing 2 identical setups of copper or leadcore as well.
