I just got the news that they are opening the floodgates at the St. Laurence and they’re going to let it rip

I have the info from a coast guard officer. I just very much hope that he got it right. According to him the water level by the beginning of July should be 4 inches below where it is now

The one month projected level is updated at the link above......... -4 is the biggest projected drop in a long time.

Hopefully it's enough to start lowering the lake level

today in Ottawa:

After flooding, Ottawa is desperate for 1.5 million sandbags to be removed

Might as well leave them until next year.

Also from what I have read the dam can only open up to 10,200 cms under the new 2014 plan. Not sure what the reasoning is maybe for the downstream flooding.

Anything above 10,200 makes shipping dangerous. I read an article that explained how there are section of the river that the current would be strong and could be dangerous for ships to pass through without running aground.

They increased the flow today to 10,000 cms

In 2017 they did go to 10,400 cms for awhile but I think they also had to curtail some of the shipping due to the current, hopefully they will do it again

Another problem is even farther downstream. Quebec City has potential 18 foot difference between high and low tide. This will go up considerately if too much downstreaming water collides with incoming tidal water.

I wonder if all that water going through Lake Ontario will help us end up with a cleaner lake

Lakes already clean, and become more so every year. I am actually concerned that increased erosion and runoff will INCREASE certain industrial chemicals that have long resided in soil...

This morning they went from 1000 to 10200 cubic meters per second. In 2017 they were at 10400 starting June 14. It stayed until August 8. We will probably see something similar this year.

That is a lot of water under the bridge. Sometimes I think that it may flush some Atlantics or chinook yearlings to the ocean and it may unwittingly be the seeds of a brand new salmon run. Time will tell.
