Recommended Posts

The Cayuga County fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for June 21 through June 28, 2019 at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html

Please visit that site for more information or to follow links.

Due to lake Ontario's high-water level, the DEC North Sandy Pond boat launch is closed beginning Thursday, May 23, 2019. For more information please view the North Sandy Pond press release.

Oswego and Wayne Counties have weekly fishing hotlines on their web sites as well and would be another good option for fishing reports; Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Though Onondaga County doesn't have a weekly fishing report, their web site is another good source of fishing information in the region (fishonondagacounty.com).

The New York State Freshwater Fishing Regulations Guide runs from April 1 to March 31. The 2019-2020 Official guide has a picture of a mother and daughter holding a nice steelhead on the cover. The Fishing Guide can be picked up where fishing licenses are sold, or viewed at Freshwater Fishing Regulations

Trout season kicked off on April 1st and for more information on trout fishing please view Fishing for Stream Trout, for places to go view Public Fishing Rights, and for anticipated stocking numbers view Trout Stocking.

As of Friday, May 24th the following waters will have been stocked with trout:

Owasco Outlet (May 3), North Brook (April 19), Salmon Creek (April 11), Owasco Inlet (April 10), and Fall Creek (May 9 and April 3).

Region 7: Use caution if venturing out as there is debris floating around on most waters and be mindful of your boat wake as to not cause property damage.

Lake Ontario and Bays

With the high-water levels there are no wake zones for many Lake Ontario shorelines and bays. There are boating advisories for the bays and shoreline of Lake Ontario. For information on these, please view the County Sheriff’s website at https://www.cayugacounty.us/155/Sheriffs-Office.  For information on Lake Ontario Boat Launch Sites please view at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/117169.html.  Salmon fishing has been good for anglers who have been able to get out. In the west end, fish are in 150 to 200 feet of water down 40 to 80 feet. On the east end, it's 80 to 200 feet of water down 50 to 100 feet. Spoons are still working and so are flashers and flies at times.
