Adding brine to cut bait question

Recommended Posts

Hello. I would like to add some brine to my cut bait. Do alot of you guys use extra brine ? I have a bottle of Mike's Natural Bright and Tight 3 in 1 brine and a 2oz bottle of salmon and steelhead glo scent. Would it be good to add it to the brine ? If so how much should I use ? I have a pint jar I'm using right now. Thanks

I use Pautzke and trying Pro-cure.  I typically brine for 24-48 hours, the make packages of 6-8 and vacuum seal.  I might try coating in Borax first, then brine as I have noticed the scales don't stay on as well as I had hoped.

I use fire-brine natural.... usually leave it in the brine for atleast 24hrs after I cut them. I add just enough brine to completely cover the strips. I've also brought home unused strips put them back in the freezer and used them again the next weekend with good results.

Thanks for the info. I have the herring in the Mike's brine with the glo scent. We will see how it works out. Hopefully I'll be out this weekend. I have used some of the Pautzke stuff for skein which worked good. Maybe I'll try the Pautzke brine next time. Ever try any color to it ?

    • Yet another question about sonar

Way back when I was in the Navy I was stationed in SC. There I had a boat and fished my butt off. When I would troll at depths of about 150ft and 10 knots SOW I could still see my ball on my sonar. Today, I have a 17ft aluminum with lowrance hook2 splitshot.  I can not see my ball on the sonar down 50 feet trolling 2.5 mph SOG.  I checked my transducer alignment, sensitivity settings....what am I missing?

I'm looking for suggestions regarding trolling a flasher fly or flasher cut bait rigs. I understand about tangles with the other lines, my issue is, they seem to tangle on themselves. Hook of the fly or cut bait seems to get caught on the main line or downrigger weight. I have electric riggers so they decend fairly slow. Not sure if it's the currents. Seems to happen 8 out of 10 times when I send one down. Any thoughts?

    • broadhead question

Hi all, I began bowhunting about 10 years ago and practiced with field points and hunted with grim reapers. I killed and retrieved about 15 deer with grim reapers but I also had several hit the shoulder bone and not penetrate. So 2 years ago I decided to switch to Muzzys. I would be completely dialed in with my field points but with the Muzzys i couldn't make a "kill shot" on my targets. People on this forum said i needed my bow tuned. So i took it to Traditions and he said he tuned it perf

    • Dreamweaver deeper diver question

I'm having a small issue with Dreamweaver deeper divers. It seems as though I've had two tangles on my last two trips out. I have never had this problem with luhr Jensen. And I have been fishing divers for years so I know to let them out slow. I can hear the weight shaking around inside both of my divers. I'm not sure if that is the problem on why things are twisting or if that is normal or not. Has anybody else had issues with the dream Weavers or is it normal for the weight to move around. I f
