Bigfoot 4 Posted August 30 The coal fired plant on Cayuga Lake formerly known as Milikan Station and later AES Cayuga burned the last of its coal Thursday afternoon and is now permanently closed. There are plans to convert it to a "data center" housing "cloud storage".
58Johnson 13 Posted August 30 Used the smoke trail to predict lake conditions for many years. I will miss that!

Frogger 116 Posted September 4 Brought back some memories of when the Dresden plant on Seneca shut down years back. Sucks. Winter fishing for browns and landlocks was never the same. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app
rolmops 137 Posted September 4 I fondly remember going fishing there in winter with my son when he was but 8 years old. All the rainbows and landlockeds. But it is a good thing that the plant is no longer sucking in millions of tiny fish only to kill them while cooling the generators and producing steam. Lively1 0 Posted September 4 Datacenters generate lots of heat and need cooling. Maybe lake water will flow there again before too long.
