What to run off the balls ?

After reading a bunch of post here . it sounds like the Hot set up is Spin Doctors and Flies off wire dipsys . But sounds like the SD's don't work well behind the DR balls. So when fishing deep with the dipsys what should I run off the riggers ?

( fishing 2 people 4 rods ).

Thanks JT

lots of guys run flasher/flies on downriggers and somedays it might be your hottest setup. if it was me and i was limited to 4 rods... id run 2 dipsey rods with fasher/fly combos on each and run spoons w/ cheaters off the riggers. It may not be the hottest setup day in and day out but i think it would give you the chance to cover the most water w/ six lures in the water.

Last year we struggled with our riggers, we only get to fish ontario for one week a year, in past years though they were firing. This past year we tried everything on the riggers and I think we only had several releases all week. So i did research on this website and through word of mouth for some good info.

I agree with legacy- We have 3 people so use 6 poles. The 2 dipsy's are always spin docs with flies. We have 2 riggers and run 2 poles off each. My advice is to either run a fixed spoon at the ball with a cheater spoon above it, OR run a flasher fly at the ball, and if your like us run your stacker with cheater, just make sure there is enough room between the flasher/fly and stacker set-up to avoid a big mess, if you do choose to stack riggers.

Jack,

SD's and flies work fantastic behind the ball. I have only two riggers on my boat and typically we run a SD/fly combo on our "non-probe" rigger. Some of our best combos last year were a 42 second SD/fly and the green dot/glow SD/Hammer fly. We keep our leads short (less than 20 feet) and did quite well. Our riggers out-fished our wire last year 10 to 1.

Good luck,

- Chris
