Trolling with both engines

Recommended Posts

I run both engines going into the wind on rough conditions so that I have better speed control and boat control.  Many times when it is rough one engine running on auto pilot tends to walk back and forth.

With smaller engines up to gas V8's it's fine. For bigger engines on an express or similar, unless you have trolling valves you're going to be way too fast for how we troll for salmon  - even on one engine.

It really depends on how the boat is powered and set up.  Best bet is to try it and see what works.

As long as the speed is good and the autopilot can hold her in a crosswind on one engine you're fine, just remember that if you run I/Os there usually only power steering on one engine.
