Is there new ruling on launches?

Recommended Posts

I love America, but it's the cowboy mentality that's done us in here. There was a post earlier regarding Sweden and their using a different approach that avoided shutting things down. Well, that's because the Swedish populace listens to guidance from their (socialist) government. I'm not saying that's good or bad, but according to some on here, that would make them sheep. Regardless, they avoided a shutdown through a measured response that was self-imposed.

Now, when I read on here all of the push back about wearing masks when you can't social distance, which is a reasonable request and easy to implement, I recognize that there was never any way that Americans were going to be able to follow the Swedish model. I have a Russian buddy who tells me that the only way to get one of his countrymen to listen is to punch him in the face lol. Different cultures demand different approaches, I guess. In some ways, Americans were there own worst enemies. If they'd complied with the initial "recommendations", there would have been no need to escalate. So, for all of my friends touting Sweden as a model and calling us sheep - think about it. These are mutually exclusive and unreconcilable arguments, IMHO. And the boat launch thing is another example of too many not-sheep ruining it for the rest of us. Thanks.

I guess my thought about the sheep comment was that I viewed the folks feeling that way as "lemmings headed for the cliff" so maybe there is an advantage to "sheepdom"

When you step back  from the issue at hand a bit the real underlying value of this forum becomes readily apparent. We have a very diverse group of people with a shared interest and a lot of passion involved in it. The opinions, views, perspectives, and vigor of approach to expression vary as much as the participants themselves. This is a good thing as it should get us thinking, sort out our emotions and personal views, and force us to think about each other and how important it is to respect ourselves and each other as we are all proud of our own countries (plural intended).

The issues surrounding this virus are deadly serious, the emotions are running high; and for good reason. Political issues, attitudes toward governance, independence of thought and interpretation of civil liberty boundaries most often accompany important issues and it is very much a part of the American experience.

The trick here is to rationally discuss the issues with facts, reason, lucidity, and coherence so that all of us benefit from the discussion with the result leading to a better understanding of the best approach to solving this terrible problem together. Just something to think about.....

Well I bought a bunch of hair bands and started making bandanna masks.   This policy will probably be with us for a very long time. Sheep or no sheep eveyones gotta wear these at some point in a day....But I think all this will pass by June we should here more about launches and marinas. Its just going to take time and patience.

You know, Les, I agree 100% with you, but you can't argue rationally with someone whose mind in already made up, irrespective of the facts. LOU is better than most of the other boards I've seen. At least people try to be civil. But it's an effort not to sink into name-slinging, not when people I care about are dying. I get so ticked off. I probably need a sanity break. I'm off to the woods with my chainsaw to engage in some social distancing. Maybe I'll come home with a more positive mindset, but right now I'm seething.

And there you go - a buddy of mine just emailed me that two people he knows died of it recently, both in their 50s with no underlying causes. I need a time out.

I feel much the same way Keith. This is a real study in patience (at the very least) for all of us. Take out the feelings on those trees on your property and go get em tiger:lol: At least you can feel some control over the situation and some positive satisfaction about progress.

The New York Empire State Development Corporation is now saying golf courses aren’t really “closed”. People can now golf, if they abide by a set of requirements. I’m of the opinion that if golf courses are open on a limited basis, boat launches can be as well.

Does anyone have more information on the alleged “clarification” from NYESD referred to by the City Manager of Ogdensburg that allowed her to reopen the boat launch in that city ?

I think that information would be helpful in resolving this issue.

Thanks- Rusty

It seems to me to be a perfect time to ask for permission to turkey hunt on public golf courses lol.

A few ash trees met their maker this morning, and the tower blind is still standing. I call that a win.

Ummmm it says golf courses can have groundskeeper and security working. It says nothing about courses being allowed to allow golfers

After that it actually says private clubs may open if social distancing is practiced and no gathering.

I guess... I didn't take that as they can open for biz. I just took it as the state doesn't have the right to limit people on private property... If they are allowed to change admission and not just give permission to people to play then that is wrong

Why if they must social distance and use other required caution.

A guy who sits on the bank with a couple bobber rods might be fishing for food . A guy who shows up at the launch with 40 k  + tied up in equipment is not fishing to feed his family . The gas used for that outing could feed a family for up to a week .

So that argument is silly ,at best .

What , like 13000 death from this virus .

This is not ALL  about control .

BS, with gas at $1.50 gal and the 4 stroke motors most of us use it costs me $1 per hr to troll. Have you bought fish at the market in the last century? I didn't think so. A salmon fillet is $8-12. This "IS ALL ABOUT CONTROL."
