Oldest boy wanted to save the heart. Anyone have a recipe they’d recommend as I’ve never cooked it myself.

I remember when I was growing up and my uncle always made steak (deer heart) and eggs. Nothing more than thin sliced deer heart, butter, garlic, and a hot pan on the stove.

Slice it up and fry it with butter, salt, pepper. It is excellent. I can’t believe more people don’t keep the heart. I have never left one behind. I take the liver too.

So I hate getting cold in the woods. Eventually I think we all do and I am always looking for ways to improve this. I recently spent some money on some "artic" weather gear that should help the cause for late season. We all know none of us have needed this stuff yet this year! Anyone in the market these might be worth checking out.

Deer heart recipe

Cook the heart whole in boiling water or pressure cooker.

Slice 1/4 inch slices across the grain

remove all the internal lining and any of the outer that's narly looking.

Fry in a pan (iron skillet best) with butter and copious amounts of basil (you can add pepper and garlic salt etc...)

If you do it right, it will be dry and tender and taste delicious.  My brother and I use to ask for it for our birthday dinner.  The reason not to eat is that it is very high in bad cholesterol.  Sucks to get old.  I had to stop eating it about 5 years ago.  I use to be able to eat like Joey Chestnut.

Sitka Incinerator hand muff is a must have for me. Let’s me bow hunt with bare hands no matter how cold. I don’t like a glove on my release hand. I also picked up a rechargeable hand warmer. That should be perfect when (if?) it gets cold.

Any info on the heater body suits? Seems high priced but good reviews.
