Have any of you guys just put twili tips on your regular rods (with cheap ceramic inserts in the eyelits)?

I’m wondering if expensive wire line rods are really necessary.

I converted a couple of Okuma downrigger rodsto dipsies; one to roller tip and the other to a twilli and they both work fine.

Twillie tips are great, but don't you guys saw through your other eyelets below the tip as well, if you are using the regular rods, especially the one closest to the reel, where side to side action will put wire pressure on sides of eyelets?

Good question right here.

I have run the yellow eagle claw rods for year with wire never had a problem. I have a set that are from the early 90's that the coating is all falling off and the handles and reel.seats are all worn out but guides are still fine. I bought a new set like 4 years ago just because the old ones looked so bad.
