Retrieving Planer Mast line

Wondering what set up works best for pulling the planer mast line in to attach the rod line. Thinking of using an aluminum carabiner on the mast line but what's the best method to hold it in place while you attach the rod line? Any suggestions (or pics) appreciated

depends on your boat setup,but i know the cannon retro ease tethers that you would use to cinch in your rigger cables works well for some guys.

I use a Cannon Retro ease.  You can lock the line  into the clip and hold it in place until you have the release clipped.

I use the carabiner and just wrap the line around something till Im ready to release it. KISS method!

Great input ..... Thanks for the info! I'm curious how the retractable dog leash set up works ... Do you mount it to something or just leave it lay in the boat. We have Tite Lok triples.

Carabiner on the tow line, section of small diameter rope and a clam cleat.

just an oversized swivel snap from the piles of crap I have and some planer reel line.  No reason to get crazy.

I used zip ties to a convenient spot on a rail.  I'm sure there are other more asthetically pleasing ways to mount it.

 

I also use a retractable dog leash for a haul rope on my climbing tree stand.
