Humminbird Si/Di and trolling

Is side imaging and or down imaging really that practical when trolling for salmon/trout?

Have it on my Lowrance Carbon and have never needed it or used it on Lake O. Great for looking for structure and brush piles in the local lakes.

Yes kinda what I was thinking. Getting a Helix for my big boat and I am trying to figure if I needed DI/SI or not....probably not.

Maybe if you do multispecies and fish impoundments or reservoirs etc. but not necessary for trout/salmon trolling.

I use side imaging fishing in less than 40 fow. Never in deeper water. SI/DI is great for warm water species and just cool to look at.

I have it on my Garmin Ultra. Although it has remarkable detail of the bottom I dont find it marks individual fish well at all. It marks schools of bait with great detail as you can see the densities well especially when the bait is tight to bottom.

We're finding out that SI is a great tool for locating baitfish schools offshore. It can help you find productive water quicker when you're scanning 300-400' out on each side.
