What kind of copper line for pulling/jerking copper with Sutton Spoon?

Recommended Posts

Hi there - I have searched all through this board and elsewhere and am trying to find info on what kind of actual copper line to get for pulling copper for lakers. I bought some of this stuff, but it seems that maybe this is for normal trolling instead? Or can I use it for hand lining. Thanks in advance.

The copper wire you want is single strand copper not the braided. The braided stuff is too stiff to be able to feel the bottom real well and because it is composed of multiple strands it offers more resistance in the water.  The single strand wire can be anywhere from .018 to .028 in diameter. Not sure where you live but I think Roy's Marina in Geneva NY may have some. You may also be able to get it from Fishy business near Branchport. NY. If not, many electrical supply outlets may carry rolls of it.

When you say lead line do you mean leadcore? If so there is much more drag in the water and a larger belly in the water. If you are referring to monel wire it is quite similar to copper but less kink resistant.
