New electronics Simrad vs Garmin

Recommended Posts

Have a Simrad Go9. Love it. Also have a Simrad autopilot that runs with it. Able to link the Go9 with an Ipad at the rear of the boat to mirror whatever screen you’re running at the helm. No need to keep peeking over the capt’s shoulder to look at the ff.

Simrad or Garmin is a Great choice.  Raymarine has a long way to go on there fish finding capabilities.  I think the one thing that separates Simrad and Garmin is the specific mapping choice for Lake Ontario.  The Simrad Platinum Card has superior detail to any other brand.  As far as Radar, Autopilot they are relatively the same.  I love my Simrad units and I see no reason to change at all.  Now I do have a stand alone Garmin for Panoptics as well so that could be another consideration.

Both are great companies, and I agree with Brian on the Raymarine products. Most guys running Raymarine have had issues in the past. I will say the one thing that separates Garmin and SIMRAD is their customer service. Garmin is hands down the best in the business with customer service. SIMRAD, or NAVICO which is the parent company, is one of the worst and has been for years. Although, they have gotten better in the last year or two. Let me know what models you're looking for and I can get you a quote on them. As far as performance goes both are equally as good.
