Legacy -The 2022 Season-

Legacy

Recommended Posts

Did the traditional Thanksgiving am deer hunt with my son today.  I bought a new savage 220 this fall and it’s been great at the range. I was hoping to christen it today. We’ve been passing the does so far hoping a good buck wouldn’t be too far behind. We went into woods today saying “let’s shoot some does if we get the chance and put some meat in the freezer.”  They were moving early I filled my doe tags.  Now the pressure is off and I can look for a good rack for the rest of the season.

wow !  Not easy getting to 150” with an eight point. You have some special dirt you hunt over.

Took my oldest daughter (5yo) out for her first hunt tonight. We didn’t see anything but she said she would like to go again, so that’s a positive lol!

Words to hunt by!

Grandpa's Ten Commandments
1. Don't step on anything you can step over.
2. Don't look for deer; look for movement (and remember, it's what they're looking for, too).
3. Always approach downwind. In the cool of the day, move uphill; in the heat of the day, move downhill.
4. The best camouflage pattern is called, "Sit down and be quiet!" Your grandpa hunted deer in a red plaid coat. Think about that for a second.
5. Take only the gear to the field that allows you to hunt longer, harder, and smarter.
6. A rainstorm isn't a reason to quit the hunt. It's a reason to stay.
7. Camouflage your appearance, your sound and your scent.
8. Be sure of your shot. Nothing is more expensive than regret.
9. Hunt where the deer actually are, not where you'd imagine them to be.
10. Next year's hunt begins the minute this season's hunt ends

Been slow. Very few pics and not seeing anything exciting. Pretty 2and a half 8 with white antlers  has been walking by me more than a couple times. Good news is we did get a pic of the best one we have on camera a few days ago.
Hopefully he stays around.

Our cams have been pretty quiet as well the past week. We planted a turnip patch for the first time this year hoping for some late season action. It came in surprisingly well. It’s been largely ignored until the past 2-3 nights.  I was getting a little disappointed. Hoping the boyfriends start to show up soon.

Only been out a couple times with others to watch them try and kill a buck. And checked a few cameras.  But other than got all the deer meat cut up.

And yesterday took advantage of the no wind to go put a hurting on some perch, was definitely a crush fest did a 3 man limit being pretty picky in what we kept!

Hoping to find a good buck for my cousin or dad to get.  So I'm still scouting even if not for me, still love to find some good ones!
