Yes you will have plenty of backing for a 7 color, especially if you use braid. I run 30’s for all my cores except a full core!!

Controllking!!! I have run them on my last boat, 24’ Thompson with a Yamaha T8, and the last 7 years one on my Yamaha T25, pushing my 29’ Aquasport!! Great unit, and great customer service. Let me know if you have any questions, I can also get you a price on one of these units.

I concur with AA, this boat is one of the best taken care of Bahas you will ever find!! It will be a sad day to see her go to a new owner!!!

My phone is doing what Whaler’s is. No messages show up but they do on my computer.
Glad I read this because I thought I had some setting screwed up.

Man doesn’t control what flows into Lake O, it is all Mother Nature!!! Superior and Ontario are the only 2 lakes that have outflow controls, no inflow controls.

Yes you can fit 400’ copper on the seagate 60, I dropped down to 40lb braid for backing. I have up to 500’ coppers on my Seagate 60’s.

Brad,
That is the way they are designed. I have a bunch of them, no issues, and they are a work horse!!! Great drag system also, just like the saltist.

Going by the numbers, there is more coming in than going out. Even if most of the runoff is east of your port, the level is still going to come up. In comparison to last weeks numbers, we are gaining a lot more now than 7 days ago. Granted that is only until the runoff slows down. We will take every little bit we can at this point!!!

I have been running chamberlains since they were released. Since that time I have not had any issues with dragging fish, including the little stockies!!! I have 2 sets, one set for browns and 1 set for salmon. You can’t go wrong with Chamberlains!!!

HachimoIf your running 2 copper per side, put the 400 on the outside and 300 on the inside as it will tend to avoid tangles as the outside 400' hooked fish drops back and "tends" to head toward center of the pattern and the 400 will go "over" the 300.
Negative on that statement!!! Out your shorter copper on the outside!!!! The longer deeper copper goes on the inside!!! When you hook up on the shorter higher copper, in theory the line should be above the longer deeper Rod. As long as the fish does not dive deeper, and into the longer copper. Also if you want to change the outside rod, if you run the longer copper outside, it will catch the inside, shorter, higher line. You can’t think that copper is the same as flatlines, or short cores!!!! Good Luck!!

Sounds like there is growing support for the EZ Steer... Thanks Captain for weighing in on this. Collective decisions are usually the best decision.
Rather than starting a new thread, any words of wisdom on the best approach to setting up the steering on an old cable-assist Alpha?

First question is... how much $$ do you have to play with?? My way of thinking has always been do it right the first time... so the perfect setup would be to upgrade your steering to hydraulic, and then get an AP for hydraulic steering. But if $$ is an issue, I believe there is an AP that you can use with cable steering. I am sure you will get some I do here about that particular setup.

KIR: Appreciate you speaking up about your set-up and experiences. I initially was looking at the ez steer set-up and using assisted directional control off the Alpha outdrive. However I recently met an Erie fisherman with an Islander and he was using the Garmin Reactor. In his opinion an autopilot on the kicker was the way to go. I am curious to see how the Islander performs with just the kicker in light to moderate seas. It's a light boat and as Pierless stated may be subject to points of wind a bit more that i would prefer.
Something to think about... if you were to run your AP on your main, and tie in with an Ezsteer, now you will also have the lower unit on the main giving you more rudder to control your boat. I run a 25hp kicker on my 29’ Aquasport with my kicker tied Into the hydraulic system so I have the rudders and the kicker turning at the same time. Much better control, and you won’t have the kicker fighting against the main lower unit when trying to turn, esp in a windy situation. I had the ezsteer unit on my last boat, 24’ Thompson with an 8hp yammy. Much better control with both turning at the same time. IMHO

I talked to someone that is associated with the billing , they were in the process of getting the bills ready to go out last week. I am guessing we will see them in the next 2 weeks.
