    If you trail you boat,buy the winterizing kit from Rob at West Marine, Rochester. Run 2 gal. pink thru the motor. First warm the engine up w/ ear muffs and a garden hose. Then switch to anti freeze and run till pink comes thru the exhaust. Talk to Rob at WM. He'll fix you up.

    The speedometer on the Moor is very sensitive to your boat's voltage. Have your electrical system tested for voltage drops. Check your boats battery, (batteries), not only for stored voltage but for health.(Load test.)

    My Moor speedo drops to zero when raising one of my older Cannons, especially when fishing deep. This rigger draws a lot of power because of it's age.

    A side note: Most of the problems I see at my store involving marine electronics are ultimately traceable to bad batteries. Good voltage readings don't necessarily indicate good health of a battery. Marine batteries MUST be charged between uses for long life.

    Bring a questionable battery to West Marine, and we'll test it for charge and health, free.

    I've always believed the action of a lure is just as important color. The prey that stands out from the school,(or herd or flock for that matter,) is the one that gets eaten. If an animal looks injured, it becomes lunch. That little fly trailing your dipsy and flasher represents a bait fish that can't keep up with the school.

    Also remember,"energy in" must exceed " energy out" for an animal to survive. The bigger the fish,the less energy it can expend in the chase. Don't be afraid of the slow troll BELOW the bait ball. The fishermen on the Pacific count on the big fish hanging around under the bait ball, picking off the scraps drifting down from the teenager's vicious attacks on the school

    of bait.

    We need feeders for the pen raised fish in the Genesee River. These fish need to be fed 5 times per day. It's easy and it's fun. especially for the kids.

    Most importantly, they're your fish! You paid for them w/ your tax dollars.

    Pen rearing help needed

    The Genesee Charter Boat Assc. will putting the pens in the water Monday

    April 14 at 4:00pm. We could use some bodies to help place the pens in the water. The pens are located at the far end of Shumways by the RR tracks. Fish are arriving Wed. the 16th. This is your chance to be proud daddies, or mommies, of that 28 pounder you catch in 3 years.

    For cold or rainy weather,or if you have a wet boat, you can't beat

    a pair of low cut (6") racing boots worn buy offshore sailors. They are felt

    lined rubber. Wear them over your insulated hunting socks. Easy to kick

    off, should you decide to go after that pole that just went over the side,(not recommended). Great traction on 'no skid' decks' and also come in a high cut

    (11") for those of you who don't believe in small craft advisories.

    For warm weather, any boating shoe with a non skid sole meant for wet surfaces,works well.

    Find them at any boating supply store, like West Marine. $25-$45 .

    Single vs dual freq transducers

    Transducers operate buy sending sound waves into the water, receiving

    bounce back signals and interpreting the returned signal as a blip,or target

    via the processor in the head unit. The target is then displayed on the screen

    of your head unit.

    The sound waves most commonly are transmitted in 200 ,50, or 200/50 khz

    or kilohertz. The waves take the form of a cone.

    The 200khz cone is a relatively narrow cone originating at the trans. and widening over increased depth. It is generally used in "shallow" water situation,100-200ft or less.

    The 50khz cone is much wider at depth and, because of a longer wave length, is able to give better performance at much greater depths. Long wave lengths (low tones),travel farther and faster through water

    Most ff's give you the option of using both cones simultaneously ,or dual.

    This will give you the most feedback info. However, sometimes it is too much info for the head to process effectively. You should experiment with

    all settings in different situations to see what works for you.

    Also remember the unit's transmitting power plays a big part in your ff's

    performance. The more power, the greater your target definition at depth.

    350 watts power is fine for Great lakes fishing. 500 watts is better,and is what you will find on the majority of quality ff's.

    Placement of transducer,style and other variables will also affect performance.

    Some tips:

    Turn off fish ID. That's the feature that shows the cute little fish. It is actually a filter. It will affect performance negatively.

    Air is the #1 enemy of a transducer. Make sure you mount the trans. away from any cavitation caused by your boat.

    FF's only cover small area. Many times you may not see the fish that hits.

    What you see on the screen is history, you have already passed over what

    you see. Many times a single fish will give multiple signals as it passes through your cone.
