  1. John doesn't do any sales online but if you want to visit his website to get the number i'm sure he will save a few for you if you asked. He has the one of the largest selections of michigan stingers of anyone around along with a lot of other tackle for the lake. He always has a good idea of what is working on the lake on on any given day as well.

  2. Get a new girlfriend... no I'm not kidding. It will save you years of misery down the road :) I used to have a gf that got badly seasick and I felt guilty everytime I went out... now I have a gf that enjoys going out and it's an amazing difference.

You know you're obsessed when you pick your girlfriends based on whether or not they get seasick, haha.

  3. I am glad that you had a good time GBrad. Billy V is one of the nicest, most helpfull and one of the best charter captains that I know. I am prety sure I saw you guys when you got back last Saturday night from your trip. Did you get stopped by some DEC guys when you got back in the Bay? If you did, the taller one on the DEC boat was me. Again, I'm glad you had a good time and it's good to hear that you look forward to going again.

  4. Gander has a lot of stuff, just never the stuff you're lookin for at the time. I'm not trying to advertise for anyone but 1000' malin 7 strand wire at gander-$49.99...... same thing at Fat Nancy's-$39.99. Local shops seem to be better all around.

  5. I used to work there so I know what the guys in the departments go through when it comes to getting product that people want and will sell. 9 times out of 10 when I go in there now I spend more of my time talking to customers and helping them find what they want/need because corporate thought it would be best to seperate everything by what species its used for wich at first sounds good however what do you do when you can use one lure for multiple species, why have rapalas in 6 different isles, why have fenwick rods in 4 different isles seperated by action. When most people that have half an idea go in there they are know what they are looking for. If I go in there for a Rapala, I want to go the the "Rapala isle". I could go on forever, but I think everyone is getting my drift. Bottom line, I was always frustrated with the decisions from "above" when I worked there.

By the way, I almost wasn't hired because "I didn't have any retail experiance". I would have thought that knowing about the product was most important, but thats just me.

  6. The problem with Gander Mountain is that the "people in charge" don't pay attention to area specific demands for product. (I'm not even convinced that the "people in charge" have a clue about fishing or hunting most of the time) I have found that if you want to get what is working, shop at local tackle shops that stock what is working and what you need for specific types of fishing. It's a corprate run business and will never be able to do for you what a local shop can.

  7. Thats why I like clear. I figured the fish see through it and becomes "invisible" and they concentrate on the lure. I guess if its deep and dark black would be "invisible" too. If one color worked all the time then manufacturers wouldn't make a dozen or more different colors of the same thing.(and fisherman wouldn't spend $$$$$ to have every color) :D

  8. Yeah that was me at Wrights Landing. Don't worry Empty Hook, I didn't give away any of the super secret spoons that we used, haha. I'm gonna blame it on the fish and not the lures we were using. InTheBox, the 12 year data is an average, the numbers are so much higher because the fishing effort was a lot higher for those years. This past April's harvest was double any other year even though the effort was less which means LOTS of fish and really good fishing conditions for the month. The May report will be out very soon.
