if running j-plugs and flasher/flies are thier speeds compatable or should i run one or the other exclusivly

I've been running my cannon digitroll IV's for years there expensive ($1300) but i love the functions bottom following ,jigging function,etc. but i did have to replace a circuit board on one($500) i'm told they run kinda hot but newer modles have been improved to fix this problem

SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILSI have a question about the leader lenth between flasher and fly i'm told this is critical and was wondering what most people run i was told 18 inches not a mm more or less is it really that presice also how far behind cannon ball is best i always seem to have more luck with j-plugs so i suspect im doing something wrong with flasher/flies...thanx

fish out of salmon river usually go there once a year for a week or so the friday after labor day see ya 9-11 this year hope the fishing is better this year any tips would be great
