  1. I expected the counter would be off slightly but to be honest i doubt they are that precise anyway so I can handle that - I was looking for a 'shortcut' since I expect to replace these current downriggers with cannon mag5hs in spring - this just seemed like an simple & quick approach to get up & running and then allow me to uninstall quickly and have the old riggers sale ready

you would want the counters to work right if you are in shallow water. it's not really a shortcut by just adding new cable. it only takes a few minutes to strip the old off. all this typing you could have had it done by now

  2. why not just remove the old cable? that will be alot of cable. you should strip back the coating a little any how. it's pretty easy to install. the instructions were a little intunidating to me, but when i got done i realized it was prety easy. as far as wear goes, as long as you don't have any burr's it should be fine. no matter how you do it the coating will wind against the metal cable anyway.

  3. What is the affect of the wet rag? Is it increasing the conductivity of the signal as it is passing through the spring?

yes. when we lose signal we put a wet rag over the spring and the cable. we get signal untill the rag dries out and repeat. i have tried everything thinking i did somthing wrong during installation, i think i even changed the cable but nothing fixed it. we just bought the new fish hawk. i hope it works better.

  5. As it is, most insurance co will take 10% off the top if you take the course. But who knows what they'll do if it becomes mandatory

most people don't have boat insurance unless it's got a lean on it.

I surely do and my boat has no lean on it. That would be asking for trouble. I'd rather not have insurance on my car. A least my car has brakes to stop. A boat just bobs and weaves.

i agree. but alot of people think it wont happen to them.

  6. nothings more fun IMHO (when its working) than a good hard-charging hit while bulging a spinnerbait just under the surface

deffinetly alot of fun. buzz baits too. i am hitting the estuary sunday am for some top water action. gets my blood racing just thinking about it.

  7. the state ditch...really? do tell...any details or advice?

they usually jig it with pretty good results. you can troll but it is kinda narrow and with other boats and people fishing from the banks it makes it tough. i dont get down there much anymore and when i do i concentrate on norhterns and bass. i have a friend who loves jigging the ditch and has good success.

  8. did ya unhook the trailer from the truck ,or the boat from the trailer ?

    .

i have actually heard of this happening. i doubt it's true but the guy swears it is. the guy who did it could not get the boat to plane off. he had to get the manufactures rep to come to the launch to tell him you are supposed to take the boat off the trailer. as i said it cant be true but he says it is.

  9. i used to fish the ranger series out in dunkirk and port clinton ohio. deffinitly some big fish in that lake. how is onieda lake? i fished it once when i was about 7 years old but cant remember much about it. another good place for big eyes is the state ditch at cross lake.

  10. i have been following this story pretty closely from the start because it is so disturbing. i live in altmar not far from the spot it happened. at first the locals were so upset they were talking about burning his cabins down etc... now it seems most have forgotten about it. their nefew used to work for me. he is a really nice guy but he even said to stay away from those guys. i rarely hear anything good about them. i have been heard that the investigators have not contacted any wittenissis. i personnaly have never met pat but i have met bob and i hope they get the book thrown at them. i was not there to see this go down so i don't know the whole story but what i do know is this is very disturbing and should not be treated lightly. just my two cents.

  11. alot of times we go to the south east end in the cove by the big island. or if you head back toward the reef just past the state ditch. all along that stretch on the left. try jigging with worms. i have also caught some at the north west end.

Well, now I know I haven't been fishing right- that stretch of the river going into the reef is right where my camp is!!! Thanks for the info- I'm going to try harder.

also you could go through the ditch towards bvill. there are a couple islands back in. i go on the back side.
