  1. After using my old Cannons for 28 years I treated myself to some newer ones.  Yes.  The rod holders seem a bit wimpy.  I think I remember reading in the literature that came with the riggers that you shouldn't use more than 50 lb. test line on poles placed in the holders.  That might suggest what you can subject them to. Disclaimer: That 50# is just what I think I remember.  According to my wife, as she told me on our anniversary, my memory isn't the best.  Better check for yourself.

  2. I've been running 4 electric Cannon.s since 1994.  Never broke a cable.  Never replaced a cable.  12 lb weights. Anytime I saw a kink in the cable I cut the cable off and put new end on.  Luckily, kinks were always toward end of cable, so I didn't lose too much cable each time.

  3. Sorry. I run 2 Mag 10's and 2 new Cannon Digi-Troll 5's. The Mag 10's do indeed stop at water line as soon as the cable leaves the water and breaks the electrical circuit.  The Digi-Troll 5's are the ones that I have to inform where the water surface is. Thanks for the correction.

  4. I replaced my 25 year old Cannons with these new Mag 10's.  I connected them to my 30 amp blade fused wiring that was already in place.  If I forget to set the "water zero" and the ball comes up, doesn't stop and hits the boom, the fuse will blow instead of the breaker on the rigger tripping. Otherwise they work fine. I'm going to check my wire size and see if I dare go with a bigger fuse.

  5. Well, here I am reading these posts this Saturday morning instead of fishing.  Heavy rain, lightning, and thunder. I guess I'll wait a while before I go out. Hoping for a repeat of last Saturday morning. Fished Sheldrake - Kidders area. Put a fish in the boat every 15 minutes for two hours. All of them lakers except for one small salmon. Not a lot of size to most of the lakers but was it fun.
