  1. I gotta tell my story. Took a guy from my town brown fishing on Otsego lake/Glimmerglass the first week of May a few years back.(First time we ever fished together) While getting underway and putting the top up he breaks the guide off to the bimini support . I put out the planner boards and while he's having coffee and donuts, I'm CONSISTANTLY cleaning off EVERY line from weeds. That morning we also had 3 inches of snow which was actually pretty cool. Here I am apologizing at the north end (7+ miles) that I have never ever seen weeds in the spring time. Then he asks me if I'm superstitious... I said what is that suppose to mean? He replies, I brought bananas in my cooler. I pulled everything and headed back to the dock then told him to throw them out or put them in the truck. He came back and said you know I never caught a laker before. Took him out to 40fow and dropped 2 leadcore with sutton spoons and 10 minutes later we doubled up, took a picture and headed home. I made the call to head home because I think he knew, I had an attitude and who the hell brings 6 bananas fishing.

  2. Yeah, I figured the same too. I wasn't a jerk, we had a calm conversation. Funny thing he knew it was opening day and he knows it's hunting season. He also said the local trails are posted for hunting season. My son and I ride too, but not during the hunting seasons. You would think the guy would give it a rest, go nail the wife, paint the basement, hit the bar, or complain on some website that it's hunting season(ha!) Just sucks for me.

  3. Hi folks, opening day of gun deer season my neighbor and his friends rode dirt bikes from 10:30 to 15:30. At 10:35 opening day I watched 4 deer bolt across my back 40 and haven't seen much of anything since. Also, deer that get pushed around normally don't head towards 5 dirt bikes racing around a 5 acre track. Again, same thing this weekend. So I decided to go over to his house and talk with him. He said he's not breaking any laws he's on his own property and not riding before 10am and stopping around 3pm in consideration for hunters. I was told I could contact DEC to see if this falls under hunter harassment? Does anyone have serious suggestions?

  4. I have 43 acres my neighbor has TWO ACRES and hunts with a 308. We use to have a 10 to 12 doe throughout the property but not anymore. Word travel fast in a small town especially bragging about shooting 6 doe in one day. You can put up all the posted signs you want, but some people are just F'ed in the head when it comes to hunting season. Below is one email response from Albany DEC.

Thank you for your letter asking about hunting laws.

New York State law contains no minimum restrictions on acreage for hunting. There is a law, however, that prohibits the discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a house or farm building without the permission of the owner.

In the case of your neighbor, she or he could only shoot a deer (or other game) on their own property. If they are taking game on your land, that constitutes trespass and you could prosecute your neighbor under New York’s trespass laws.

If you wish to pursue a prosecution, you should call our Environmental Conservation Police as soon as you detect any evidence of trespass. It is very helpful when filing a complaint to include all the factual information available to you, including time and date of the offense, and information describing any and all persons involved. Our Division of Law Enforcement has a 24/7/365 dispatch operator available toll free at 1-877-457-5680.

I hope that this is helpful.

    Thank you.

  5. Was the second boat to launch Sunday on a solo trip and setup in 125fow at 05:20am. Temps were all over the place, tried every combo I had, Flashers & SD with flies and spoons, tried all my spoon color setups and switched up every hour an a half or so out to 180fow. Trolled east to west north to south, marked some small bait pods around 100 here or there, but didn't move a rod all day. A little chatter on the radio with a few hook-up, could have been the group of boats outside of Sandy's. Congrats to those folks.

  6. Wednesday solo trip. Got out late 7:30, delay caused by no trailer lights/bad fuse + a 3hr ride. Started in 80fow and came across bait out in 100ft down 80ft. Had one downrigger release(no run) and the other jump a bit, went back over picked up an small laker(18 incher) back over a third time the bait went up to 40ft. Went 3 for 6, 2 small lakers and 15 inch king (all dinks and all released). Made it out to 200fow but 80 to 120fow was the only action for me. Had the place to myself most of the day, flasher spoon combo on the wire and spoons on the DR's, washed some spin doctors fly combos too. Speed was mostly 2 1/4 on the sub-troll. Stack, stagger and change up.

  7. Hey folks,

I hit the lake whenever I can depending on the waves and if I can get someone to go. I have a 17ft Great Lake Special / Sea Nymph, I run 4 rods, 2 dipsy and 2 off hand crank riggers. No name on the boat yet. I use a sub-troll for speed and temp at the ball, GPS to find my way, and a Lowrance fish finder. Usually do ok out there for spring browns and late summer salmon. I don't BS anyone on how many fish I catch or what I use. There are plenty of fish and water out there for all of us. Tight lines and screaming drags everyone!
