  1. I hear everyone having a lot of luck fishing copper. I have a few poles rigged up for it but have never had much luck. I’m sure that I am fishing them wrong.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how you do it.

-how long of a leader off of the end of the copper. Mono or fluoro?

    - how much line do you let out once all of the copper is in the water? Does more backing in the water equal greater depth( I have braided line as a backing on all reels)?

What type rigs work best? Flasher flies, meat, spoons, etc ...

    Any other considerations?

    Any help is appreciated.

I will be coming up and giving it another shot 8/11 - 8/18. We will be trying the Fair Haven area this year( usually at the Lighthouse Marina in Port Ontario).

    Thanks,

  2. I am about to upgrade my current Garmin 740S which I use for my navigation as well as my fish finder on my boat. After doing some research and talking with a few people I am leaning towards a Garmin 1042xsv with a GT51 transducer.

I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or any experience with this particular setup.

My boat is an Aquasport Explorer 275 with twin outboards(250 Suzuki’s) and I will be running a fish hawk X4d as well.

  3. I recently bought a couple of the older style Mag 10's from a member on this site. I had them gone over by A&P Tackle and had him repair or replace whatever he thought needed to be done so that they would be in good working order. So...my question is, I have 12 pound shark weights that I bought last year and was wondering if I can still use them with the "new" downriggers. I was told not to use more than a 10 pound weight!

  4. I currently have a two battery(starting batteries) system on my boat with a Perko off-1-both-2 switch. My boat has two 4 stroke 250 outboards(if that makes a difference). I want to add a third battery(deep cycle) for running stereo, vhf, fridge, etc when anchored and I want to wire my riggers to it as well. Is this a complicated setup for a marine mechanic or a DIY project? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  5. It is hooked to a hydraulic pump. When I use the buttons on the head unit I can get the motors to turn to the right but then that is it. When I took the leads from the hydraulic pump directly to a 12 volt source the outboard move one way and the when I reverse the connection they move the other way as they should.

  6. I talked to someone that told me to touch the motor leads off of the computer unit to the power leads and see if it moves the motors and then switch to see if they go back the other way. I did this and it worked fine. I called Raymarine and they advised me to send them the head unit and the computer unit and they will diagnose it. We shall see.

  7. I have a Raymarine ST6002 autopilot on my boat and I can't seem to get it to work. The control unit is powered up and seems to function properly but it does not move the motors. The motors only move in one direction then stop. The boat is a twin outboard setup if that matters. I'm assuming the unit is original with the boat which would make it 15 years old. I was wondering if anyone knows of any marinas that would be able to look at it and possibly fix it. I really don't want to have to replace the entire unit if I can help it. Any help anyone can give would be appreciated.

    Thanks
