  1. While this topic is at the top for a while I thought I would let everyone know I went with the spypoint link evo with verizon as the cell provider. No complaints at all. Especially since I accidentally locked the camera to the tree with the cameras button access cover unlocks and open. It has been locked to the tree like this since the end of deer season 2017. This left the camera totally open to the elements all winter and up until now. It has really showed how durable it can be. I have three so far and all work great.

  3. I was in your position end of October and did a lot of research and put in some miles checking out gear. I was sick of cutting my hunts short coming home cold and empty handed.
(Background) I stand hunt WNY only for deer. I don't walk much and my distance to stand is usually less then 500 yards to stand.
I purchased the Cabelas's stand hunter jacket and bibs this year. I was worried about the weight , and the wool collecting burns. The weight proved to be unnoticeable. The wool didn't collect burns like I thought. Extremely quiet and extremely warm with simple base layer. First morning I woke up with snow on my lap half hour past shooting light. Sitka gear is awesome but expensive, but very very light. From what I've found Sitka gear runs a size small and works great for guys who like to move and hunt. If that makes sense? I vote Cabelas stand hunter.

  4. I'm also new to pistol hunting for deer. I recently came across a redhawk .41 caliber with iron sights. My father in law gave me this pistol with a sentimental story behind it. I was able to take a doe with it a few days ago. The ease of mobility in the tree-stand was great. Low recoil, clean pass through at 40yards, good blood trail, quick expiration of the doe. I can say this, I will always bring it with me when the season allows for it. Reviewing the trajectory and confidence gained at the range for the possibility of further shots is needed. Ammo well I'm not to sure on the readily accessibility of that. I may have to lean how to hand load.

  5. Chautauqua county, Arkwright Bard road/ Burnham road area.

Just an FYI if any of you guys hunt this area or know anyone who hunts this area tell them lock their stands. I've had a total of 4 stands stolen this year all right before gun season. But the heavy two man stand way back in the woods that I wouldn't mind them taking because it weighs a ton they left. My fault for not locking them up for the past ten years.

A bit off topic but maybe I can prevent someone else from having a bad day/ week!

  6. Hey guys I lurk this thread along with all of the others. Ill try and make it a quick short one. My opinion is very similar to the others who have mentioned the level of intrusion you feel you have. I know Some may disagree and some may agree but I am one who feels if if possible introduce yourself to neighbors in person especially if your property is out of town. Acknowledge your intentions for your land, and do your homework on properly posting your property, neighbors can be a great resource.

If your property is marked properly (NYS DEC site has the regulations for review) you should determine what type of offender you have. A simple neighbor who's intentions are harmless but need to be addressed or a neighbor who decides he is going to take advantage of your absence. In the case of the trail cam pics I would show some neighbors, send some texts with the pics if you have their cellphone# , and advise the proper law enforcement. Even if you don't find him immediately word will spread your property is monitored, and neighbors hopefully will be more likely notice anything further. Creating a working network of neighbor or adjacent hunters is always your best bet. Again only my opinion.
