  1. According to NYup.com, the International Game Fish Association has recognized that a catfish caught on Lake Ontario now holds the world record for the longest catch of that species! The 32.6 inch fish was caught by Capt. Eric Scordo, who is from Watertown, NY, on May 18. He also holds a state record for a channel catfish he caught the previous year. 2. We’re delighted to share that a new New York State record walleye was recently caught.

According to the DEC, the record-setting fish was caught by Brian Hartman in the St. Lawrence River using a swimbait. The fish was caught on May 5, 2018, which also happened to be the opening day of walleye season this year. The walleye weighed in at 18 pounds 2 ounces, was 32 inches long, and had a 21 inch girth. The previous state-record-setting walleye had been caught in 2009 and weighed 1.5 pounds less.

Hartman is from Alexandria Bay, NY. A photo of Hartman with this fish can be found by clicking here.
