Did you place something magnetic near the flux gate compass?  That will make it go haywire. 

I'd go with the I troll with the hunt mode.

I got the tr1 gold this season and it's hands down the best thing I ever got for the boat. I got it from Dan at trolling solutions,  it was the best price and he's got a lot of knowledge for them.
