  21. This week's fishing report is from Capt. John Oravec of Tightlines Charters, July 18, 2018. Hello, this is Captain Johnny Oravec, Orleans County veteran fishing guide with some wonderful news about Lake Ontario trout and salmon fishing. Wow! We have calm waters and multiple hot spots teaming with big fish off the Orleans County shoreline! Some fishermen are enjoying Big Brown Trout by trolling small stingers, yecks and super slim spoons over the 50' - 60' ledges from the Ladders all the way to the "Devil's Nose". Keep your spread simple, downrigger wise and make sure a leadcore longline is part of your strategy, ok! The Troutman 2 Tracker and Bucaroo boats have landed some super whopper browns this week right up to the 10 to 15 pound "football" brown trophy class! King Salmon continue to be the wonderfully strong suit off Point Breeze! The fantastic screamin' reel action for 5 - 18 pound average Chinook salmon has stayed consistent right at the 90' - 120' depths...keep your mixed spoon /flasher fly spread down at 45 to 70 ft and Hang On! Tracker Dave reported a near 30 pound king making it one of the top fish out of the big lake so far this season! Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  22. This week's fishing report is from Ron Bierstine at Oak Orchard Tackle & Lodge, 4/24/18. (Excuse us for the delay in sending as we were away at a conference this week.) "Nice spring weather is hanging in with warmer temps through the beginning part of this week. Flows in the Oak are hanging in at high with lots of upstream supply. Look for flows to stay up or possibly go higher with overflow water with any significant precipitation. Water color is slowly clearing with about 1 foot + of visibility. "For the last of the consistent steelhead action, the conditions are what they are in the Oak. If, by the time flows will be significantly lower and clearer, look for warmer temps and post spawn or drop backs moving downstream and not so many fresh fish moving upstream. Water temps with the near forecast will be moving through the 50's°F. For now, fishing pressure remains real light with just a handful of guys on the waterway and not a lot of reports back so far this week." 23. This week's fishing report is from Ron Bierstine at Oak Orchard Tackle & Lodge, 4/17/18: "Thanks to sleet/ice melt-off and significant rain through yesterday, all of the tributary flows are blown high and dirty. Flows in the Oak consist of lots of turbine and overflow water. Thanks to tributary run off and strong winds through today, the near shore Lake Ontario waters are dirty. "Forecast is for cold temps today and slightly warmer temps in the 40's°F for the rest of the week with chance of precipitation Thursday. On the backside of these most recent higher flows, there should still be some steelhead action since there's been no great warm up just yet. There is the chance for some April fresh fish migrations, especially some spirited jack steelhead or even Lake run browns." Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
  24. Today is Tuesday, April 10, 2018. This week’s fishing report is from Ron Bierstine at Oak Orchard Tackle & Lodge: "Finally some weather this week feeling a little more like spring! Forecast is for warming temps in the 40’s – 50’s°F thru the week with chance of showers on and off. Look for warming water temps and definitely an acceleration of steelhead spawning and spring migrations. "For now, with plenty of previous cold temps and high water, temps in the Oak have not moved much through the 40’s, but look for quickly rising temps through the 40’s and likely into the 50’s°F now sooner then later. By steelhead standards the flows are real nice at slightly high and stained with about 1 – 2 feet of visibility. There’s plenty of water and stain for cover for fish to be any place they want to be in the river. Look for most consistent action downstream of the dam around post spawn dropback spots or gravel where they are spawning. "Fresh fish could arrive to the party at any time and go right to gravel – so action right at the dam may be slowing for steelhead. Some suckers are reported and look for more of those rubber lips going forward. Even a few smallmouth are in the mix now too. "Fishing pressure has been real lite. Today, with a handful of anglers out, most are reporting at least a couple of hook-ups on a morning’s effort. The other area smaller tributaries are hanging on probably to the last of the decent action now and before water temps spike up high on medium and slightly stained flows." 25. Today is Tuesday, April 3, 2018. This week’s fishing report is from Ron Bierstine at Oak Orchard Tackle & Lodge (published Mon., April 2): "After pretty good rain at the end of last week, we dodged any significant precipitation through the weekend. Night time temps are dropping back into the 20’s°F and that has tightened up the runoff. Flows in the Oak are high and stained with about 1’+ of visibility. For now, flows are slowly on the clear and turbine flows are likely to stay up around high through the week. "No impacts here in WNY from the latest snowstorm on the east coast. Forecast is for clear today (Monday) and showers tomorrow (Tuesday) and temps in the 40’s near 50°F. There will be a chance of more significant rain Tuesday night and then a wind advisory Wednesday. Flows could be quickly back on the rise with overflow water and off color with anymore significant precipitation." Click here to see the rest of this report on ILoveNYFishing.com.
