  1. Added note ...wow all this talk on the forum about the fishing sucks other than for lake trout???? Really???? We have fished every week since end of March and every week we have gotten SILVER fish Browns steelhead cohos 1 Atlantic and yes kings!!!! We have fished west almost every time out and done kings. As matter of fact the few times we went east we did kings there also. So all this b.s.and bad press about the lake fishery is a joke to us. The silvers are and have been here all season, the bait fish numbers and size classes look great and the fish are healthy.

Can't complain about the fishery because Lake Ontario is producing great fish. And yes great fish coming from oak to I.bay every week! If people are finding it so ****ty for them ask for help, look in a new area or give up! But don't complain online and give bad press because of select few.

Next and last thing- mark WOW glad we where not aloud to fish the king of the oak yesterday ....we saved a lot of people cash and egos. Yesterday we where shaking off fish BIGGER than 12 to 13 pounds! We would of cashed a check!

What a joke hence why we don't post much or talk with anyone anymore!

  2. CDs- yes there are silver fish beyond 180fow+ we have been doing fish -kings and coho and few steelhead since late April from these depths. See Last few post by reeljerks and also Great Lakes lure marker ...a few guys from the board have been out with us and had fun on silver fish.

They are there, have been there just gotta put away the cowbells and work for what ya want.😀

  3. Mark-

I did a fast/short reply earlier- had homeowner standing around me all day lol.

So I wanted to add... Only 2 or 3 people on this lake know my backgroun/past without getting into much you know I understand what your past few years have been like. That's why we have been continuously trying to get ya out on the water.

The 2 days out in the water where great, not just fishing but seeing you get back into the game. Every hour I watch you get a little more comfortable and unwinding. That's what it's all about and being able to see the "reeljerk" back on the big pond was like a blast from the past.

As far as the fishing goes- like riding a bike - comes back quick don't it lmao.

Only thing else I'm gonna say is I'm still upset you made me grab that last wire rod King!! Lmao

Glad ya got the Lake Ontario salmon fever again brother!

  4.  Today Capt. Rich and myself had the pleasure of having Capt. Mike Pastore of Rodmaster charters aboard the “fired upâ€. Prior to fishing with this Lake Ontario legend I thought the name “rodmaster†was for the number of fish he catches for his clients, well there is a second reason. Neither Capt. Rich nor myself could believe this guys ability in landing fish…..the best rod guy I have ever seen. He landed mature kings in RECORD time one after another. Great guy with not only a vault of knowledge but unbelievable rod handling skills. Mike you are welcome to fish aboard the “fired up†anytime!

Now for the blood bath report , ABSOLUTELY  the BEST SALMON bite we have ever seen in july and we all have been doing this for over 20+ years!

We left dock at 5 a.m. and headed out to our fishing grounds.  Since we were not on a charter and there was no money, reputation, or pressure involved in our day we all decided to keep our work load to a minimum. Only run 6 rods – 4 riggers with 2 wires…No coppers, cores, torpedo’s or even cheaters or free sliders!!!!  Well we where so wrong on not working!

Starting setting rods at 5:35a.m in 150 fow .

2 riggers 55’ and 65’ down with 42 second spoons. Port down and out 73’ down with white green dot echip and twinkie meat rig. Starboard down and out 42 second spinnie/fly. Wires 210’ on 2.5 setting with white green dot spinnie/meat other 250’ on 2.5 setting with same spinny/sushi fly. All He#@ broke loose and had 9 kings in 45 minutes.

We continued to work 150-200’ in a one mile area and pound on the kings till 9:30 when we called in another captain to cash in on the blood bath for his clients. During this time we moved off our waypoints for him to work area solo. We spent this time on an hour and a half sight seeing tour so Capt. Rich could show Linda an underwater island.

11:00 BACK ON our waypoints and back to the king action. Same lures just fished dropped down some in water column. Continued to catch mostly mature salmon with only a few teenagers and 1 steelhead in the mix. Watching catching Capt. Mike and linda reel in salmon all day till we pulled rods at 12:45 and headed to dock. We kept afew bleeders and matures for the smoker and for the pig roast we attended back at marina. Other than that all swimming to be caught again another day. We tallied fighting over 40 kings and 1 steelhead in 6 hours we spent actually fishing.

The fishing was incredible to say the least but so was the entire day and experience. All four of us had none stop ball breaking and laughter the entire day. By far a day I will never forget the rest of my life. Thank you Capt. Mike, Linda and Capt. Rich.

  5. Great Lakes lure company, Jason just took the company back over from his father so no website yet. You can either reach him on here.... Great Lakes lure maker or in facebook at Great Lakes lure company.

The wobblers are a great "old school" spoon. Unique shape and action. Plus a speed range that is incredible I have pulled them at 3.6 and still hold their action!

  6. Thanks justgrinning

    Johnnynov-

If you are still looking to book a charter trip we have multiple boats and can accommodate you and your needs.

Contact me if still interested. Thank you

  7. Piratesholly-

Maybe escape or one of the sandy creek boys will post what's going on down that way. We have been working genny to webster mostly but have been to braddocks and lighthouse a few times but not any further towards Hamlin way yet.

These winds are gonna change things up a bit. I would check the lake surface temp maps from Devils nose to braddocks. Look for a strong surface temp brake they start to show up between now and 1st week of June usually. They can be insane for surface steelhead action and occasional Kings.

If no good brakes then set up in 55' and roll north from there. Again these winds gonna change things. A lot of our bigger kings have been caught and marked close to bottom so if yA see them on graph they may not be lakers.

Best spoons for us have been super slim style or 28 size mags have taken some fish but mostly slow for us. Long leads off the riggers have also been key 35-60 back off ball. Free sliders have taken some fish also-/-- Great Lakes lure Keuka wobblers and SS. Hope this helps and good luck

  8. Thork9-

Black boxes can be effective just like the positive ion control on cannon riggers. I puts a specific current to the riggers which will either attract or repel trout and salmon. Generally shorter rigger leads work when used with the box.

That being said before considering a unit check your boats "charge" . Run everything like you would while fishing and with riggers in the water. Also check all your boat grounds and zincs.

Had a scotty unit On my last boat and overall I found correcting sub par boat grounds and making better terminal connections on everything had a far greater impact than the black box ever did.

  9. Port of Rochester and Lake Ontario still fired up! The King salmon bite has been insane the past 4 or 5 days. 55' to 100' foot of water has been key location. Averaged 25 fish on each time out over the past four days with Saturday being best day boating 27 and losing 5 others. Spin doctors/fly in glow/green. Spoons have been anything green/glow or black. Great Lakes lure company Keuka wobblers have been also taken. Few steelhead and Browns mixed in with the salmon on free sliders. Most kings in the 15-17 pound range with a few tipping the 20lb mark.

  10. Chris the guy holding the fish sent me the pic last night at 9pm when I was doing report. Sorry he sent wrong pic and I didn't look before posting. We'll get pics from Him and post.

Thanks again a-lure-a and hope yA poked a few on that spoon I floated yA. It good multi species and multi condition spoon. Always in my spread somewhere.
