  1. Happy New Year to all the Finger Lakes Guys and Gals!

Well I had a lot of time on my hands and I hit the tribs hard. I fished 5 days a week for 2 months.

The fishing and the weather was outstanding this fall. I pinned exclusively and fished dime and quarter sized fresh egg sacs mostly in white and blue.

I mainly fished the cayuga tribs and it seemed every week we would get 1 day of good rain and it was bringing fresh fish into the systems daily.

Late October brought some monster salmon. I caught plenty and had a few pushing the 10lb mark. They ranged from 18 to 30 inches with quite a few 3 to 5 lb fish.

November the browns came and came. Caught loads of 4 to 7lb browns, mostly males.

December the bows came hard and they were the main catch for month. Some real pigs too! But most are 15 to 22 inches, nice dime bright, hard fighting fish.

I got up to the LO tribs over Thanksgiving and had some great fishing there as well. The day after thanksgiving, I had a banner day landing 5 steelhead, 2 pig male browns and a fresh 18lb king!

All good things come to an end but this time it happened at the right time! I start my new job at University Hospital in the Research Foundation Division next week.

I hope you all had a great holiday and good luck in the upcoming season out on the lakes. Be safe out there this winter.

  2. Just going to try it around the house area for now. See what's up there. I've always fished T falls in the winter but I'll bet there's fish to be had off the points by the house and down towards the plant.

  3. Andy, I've got a 16 ft starcraft deep v tiller. Going to keep it simple. Rod holders only. Just going to rely on cores and flat lines with in line boards. No sonar no GPS. Just like the old days. And I caught a lot fish like that back in the day.

  4. We got out! Sun up to sun down. Worked from the boy scout camp to rocky dock. Boxed 3 nice salmon and caught several just shorts along with a few small lakers. The bite died at noon and we only did about 4 more till dark. It was a dodger fly bite. Spoons were not producing at all. 7 color cores were dead. The fish were deep, 80 to 100. I ran rods up high and sliders too but no go.

Some fish came into fall creek on the hi water but it was too muddy to fish on sat.

Pulled the boat and now I'll concentrate on getting the 16 footer rigged for winter action.

  5. Well looks like the last weekend for me is a windy bust. I'll start hitting the tribs and bird hunting. It was a great season and its going to be a long winter!

Fyi not a whole lot happening in the Cayuga tribs now. Need a touch more water and some cooler temps. I just came back from scouting fall creek and there was not a soul fishing the whole creek. Water looks great other then the leaf hatch. I saw no fish. Everyone have a safe hunting season.

  6. The new ride is working out great. Got all the bugs out and she is fishing great. Went out yesterday at 2:00 back to the same spot and got into those nice salmon again. Lost another huge one on the 7 color core right at the back of the boat. Dang small hooks on those t stick. Broke my fish hawk probe yesterday so that gives me the excuse to get a new x4 for next season. 2 more charters next weekend and then I'll call it a season.

  7. Wow it was snotty for the first 3 hours. Picked away on the west side from the boy scout camp all the way to rocky dock. 100 to 150 fow. Riggers down 50 to 60, wire divers out 200 to 220. 7 color cores were good off the big boards. Bite died about 11:00 so I dropped everything down 20 feet and got them going again. We hit the grand slam with a nice 10lb laker as our best fish. Loads of 22 to 24 inch chunky salmon and we dropped a big salmon at the back of the boat off the core that I figured was over 8 lbs after a lenghtly battle. A great day on the water!

  8. Fleas were bad yesterday and if anyone can get those fish at Myers to go, let me know as I wasted 3 hours there. Lakers everywhere but they seem to be in pre spawn shut down. We managed a few nice bows and salmon for 10 hour trip! At least I know where not to fish now. That's what happens when you take 2 weeks off.

  9. As it stands now, the lake is at 383.6. Flood stage is 385. It got to almost 386 this spring. I don't see it getting there and hopefully they will open the locks in a day or so. But I think its going to hit more thanto 384.5.
