    Status of Seneca Lake Perch

    Don't have 50 years like Les but after 15 years I'll say this ......The school that used to live near/around Sampson State Park is now in freezers across the state. Many will say it can't happen. Do the math 3 guys, 50 each times 50 boats for 7 days 52,500 fish and that school was there for well over a month.
    Wonder why people think about spot burning if you share anything ???
    I've brought many people and been there when 2lber's come over the side with nothing but smiles but when you spend hours and get nothing well that's just Seneca being the fickle lady she's always been.
    They are still there ( yes I run a camera) no I can't tell you where.... You'll have to just trust me

    So after a short time on the water I crossed paths with the " intern" owner of the Marina. He's talking to a guy from lakeshore fire district about the plans for the upcoming project. I ask about when the dredging will start and how deep the channel is going to be.

    His response is this....."the senator lied to the media and told all it will be 8' " the permits are for a max of 4' so really there going to pump 4 million into a break wall system across the front of the bay and not stop a NE from closing up the channel which was by the way 3' deep right now.

    1' of dredge, 4 million..... the launch state facility better have TP when I use them

    I'll chime in and tell you this, after learning a few " new" tactics and spending more time running a camera then fishing. There's still plenty of fish Sunday found a school 300-500 strong and on the larger size of 12"-14" was amazed at the number.....now could I get them to go NOT they were in 55' of water. At the first glimpse of the camera GONE into the abyss. 1/2 mile farther another 50-70 pod . For about a mile they were here and there. All this talk about over fishing seems to be keeping people from just getting out and enjoying the sport. Please stay home and complain about it ....I'll be fishing might not be catching but ...really 1 or 2 trips with 20 or 30 perch and that's all the filets I need in the freezer

    Tangled.....when you see large groups of boats there using the " bent rod locator" while you may be tempting do yourself a favor make note of depth and structure under them and go find you own fish. After 20 + years of fishing Seneca for perch I'll share this ... While everyone pounds on schooling fish the very rare Jumbo's form schools maybe 6-12 @ most. If the wind allows it search the edges of the drop offs .... 25-30' to the abyss.
