  1. we added a furuno 620 that was packaged with a transom mount ducer and a garmin 526. no complaints and couldn't be happier. I wouldn't go any smaller then the 5" garmin if you'd go with them. the 4" screens start getting borderline small. It also came loaded with maps and can accept an sd card loaded with garmin's g2 vision blue charts.

  2. Snowfool, Great catch! Any idea of down temp?

    Thanks. Our first fish that morning was 29lb 4oz on the scales. Made the mistake and ran in and was at woodys at 730 to weigh and didn't know scales didn't open till 9. OOOOPS! Went back out and caught two and dropped two more and called it a morning for the second time at 10:30 to weigh. Fish weighed the same at both times on our scales so I don't think we lost any weight. Temp seemed to be moving cause of the winds that day but it was upper 50's/low 60's down around 90 that day. Of course that was on our riggers and at 2.5 mph or so. Your equipment may vary.

  3. Because of work and other fishing we typically only fish a week of the loc fall derby. If we're setting up with a blank screen we go by temps. That time of year temps aren't so important but we start at 55 degrees and work or way down from there forming a v pattern with the center rigger deepest. If one dipsy takes hits we set the other close to that and match lures also. Usually keep our riggers 10-15ft apart.

  4. Hopefully its as good tomorrow morning and we'll be able to get out a little earlier. My sisters boyfriend is somewhat of a load and slow to get moving in the morning. Lol. Most of our early morning fish were 124-128 fow and the last pass troll in the high sun was in 108-105 or so. Would've loved to stay all day but I only get to fish mornings to keep the wife happy. Morning of trolling and a trip to boldt castle in the afternoon. Should be a good day tomorrow.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Struggled a few days out in front of the plant but finally got something going today. Started in front of the river around 100' and Trolled north. After losing a dipsy/flasher/fly and then flasher/fly off the rigger, we managed to regroup a little deeper and start catching. Loaded everything with white crush glow chips with either a glow hammer or glow pro am fly and had a great morning. Kept it around 2 mph on the fish hawk. Most hits came before 9. Got pretty quiet for us until we moved into 108' of water. Unreal bait and hooks in there. Picked up 2 browns on flasher fly rigs and a king on nk28 frog on our SWR. Lots of rookie errors from new guys setting rods and trying to net fish kept our landing percentage low but still lots of fun.

  6. you may have been a month early for your boat. i read an article that they aren't allowed to start dredging until early July because of some bird that nests in the area? they got a variance on the permit and dredged in early June because of the especially poor inlet conditions and no signs of said bird. See you around Jared. If you don't catch us at the scale I'm sure you'll see me walking around the pond with my favorite beverage letting my three little people run wild. good luck.

  7. I asked the same question in another thread about the channel. Supposedly marked well as long as you run behind the island? We'll be there Aug 18-25 and staying just off the south pond and it would be nice to slip the boat in the north pond somewhere instead of trailering to Mexico.

  8. We had the same issue. Ran out in the morning and tried to run back later and couldn't. Engine just sputtering and bogging down. Trolled our way home. Heard a tick tick tick noise and found the coil wire arcing to somewhere it shouldn't have been. Replaced the coil wire but also found the gas filler loose and thought water could have gotten in. Added dry gas and replaced the wire. One of the two fixed it.

  9. if you're using these boards, with say a 300 copper, how far out the side do they pull? meaning what angle off the transom roughly and how far do you run them out if you're using dipsy also? i think we made a mistake with a rookie wheel turner and some how our coppers got tangled into eachother....might have even involved a dipsy as well. i don't remember but a 30 pack disappeared at camp until they were both sucessfully untangled. :beer: kind of got gun shy after that and just kept one down the chute. oddly enouggh we've never done a fish down the chute on a flasher/fly. always do good with a mag green dolphin spoon.

  10. We're upgrading this year and deciding between an hds8 or separate units with an fcv620 and plotter. What transducer are you guys running with the 620? I was thinking a p66 and was wondering how you run your plotter. 50 or 200 or both? I haven't seen one in person but the screen looks like its getting small if you run the split screen. The hds8 looks nice but I think the simplicity of the 620 is more appealing.

  11. i dont really think that it matters if its accurate. lets say the fish are hitting when youre in the 2.3-2.4 mph zone....according to your fish hawk. does it matter if your actual speed is really 2.6-2.7 or that you are able to keep your boat on the fish hawks indicated 2.3-2.4 speed producing more strikes? I feel the probes are more for repeating presentations once you start getting hits on your boat.
