  1. EsoxAC3,

One before and one after.  I will be working sunrise later this week to see if the bite is there.  Can't wait for November!!!

    muskiedreams,

You are right on about knowing the water.  The St. Larry is unforgiving.  If you work the wrong piece of water at night and don't know the area you are asking for trouble.

  2. Thanks for the acknowledgement Stew. It's been Two fish in two trips for you. That's awesome!! As you are already well aware of, the area of the St Lawrence that we fish on is not an area of numbers. It is a tough body of water to catch fish on. You never know how big the next one will be!

  3. The Coldwaters had some issues with the linecounters when they were initially introduced.  From what I have read they have gotten all the bugs out and are a very nice reel for the money.  I use convectors.  Some I have had for several years.  They have been great for me for salmon and muskie fishing.  I just sent a bunch of them to Tuna Toms to be broken down and refreshed.  I run the 30 models for both wire line dipsy fishing and downrigger applications.  I am thinking about purchasing a couple coldwaters to try out.  You can't go wrong with convectors and catalinas.  I am guessing the coldwaters are the same with regards to quality.

  4. I am looking for a qualified marine electronics installation technichian for Garmin products.  The install will be on a Hewescraft Ocean Pro hardtop.  Will be installing chartplotter, radar, and satellite weather.  I am located in the Thousand Islands Region but I am willing to travel as far as Rochester if needed.  Any help would be appreciated.

  5. I have entered the Pro Am Open Division in Oswego this weekend. I am having trouble locating rules for the Open Division. Could somebody familar with the Open Division answer the following questions?

Do I have to attend the Captain's meeting if I am fishing the Open Division? Where is it held?

    Can I cull?

Am I required to place zip ties on the fish like the other divisions?

Do I need to record GPS coordinates for all fish?

Thanks for your help and please add any pertinent information I may need to know.

  6. Believer is spot on when he states that the St. Larry is a hard place. I have witnessed many muskie anglers come up to fish for 1-2 weeks and not move a rod. This river will not give you numbers. Anglers come from out of town for a couple of days/weeks and they never come back. There is so much water to work, mother nature is always reminding you who is the boss, and time between fish can seem like forever. Best bet is to coordinate with a guide. There are some good ones. Unfortunately, many of the muskie guides are getting to the end of their chartering careers. It is unfortunate since they are an invaluable source of information.

Desired lures seem to be geographic. Many anglers fishing from the U.S. side will pull believers, berger rig style or clean. There is a group of Canadians that like to pull Jakes and Grandmas. Anglers from both sides catch fish with their programs. I have not seen or heard of anybody pulling Radke's in years. There may be a few using them but I don't know who they are.

If you can get any of the day to day muskie anglers to give you their number of fish caught to hours fished here on the St. Larry in the Thousand Islands Region you will be very disappointed. It is a very difficult fishery.

  7. I did not read anything in the rules stating that you cannot fish this event solo. Do you have to have a minimum of two people on the boat? Can you fish another event the same day(Little Salmon River Challenge)? Also, are the awards ceremony on the last day or are there awards/raffles each day after the weigh in is complete? Thanks.
