Hello Chris: Take 34 B south down from Owasco towards meyers point. It is a nice drive closer to the lake then Rt. 34 is. Don't forget if you want some of those big Cayuga Browns target the bottom structure where it intersects the thermocline, usually 50-80' this time of year. You can bump the bottom with your rigger, set your release up a few feet on the cable so not to snag. Also if you do this keep your drop back of the lure to a minimum(20-30'). This tactic requires lots of work, but may get you the lunker? Also check the weather if the wind is out of the north west be prepared for some rough chop in the lakes middle. Good luck!

  2. Hi,

Hello Chris: Fish Cayuga , Launch at Meyers Point and head north. Use riggers, just look out for the weeds and flea's. Purple spoons during day, green colors morning and night. You might also want to trail a leadcore line out the back at about 5 colors with a stick bait, try lucky craft american shad, the browns and LL love this plug. This time of year use 3" lures and up, bait fish are growing.

    Good Luck,

I'm heading up to fish Lake O and the Finger Lakes from Aug.14-20th. I'll be staying in Oswego and would like some advice on which of the Finger Lakes to try for trout and salmon. Last year I tried Owasco and did really well on lakers and also caught a nice rainbow, walleye, and brown. I stopped by Bass Pro before fishing and they all said don't go to Owasco and that the fishing isn't that good there. I was surprised because I thought it was great when you compare it to NH and ME fishing. My question is whether or not there's a much better option to try that's not too far from Oswego(about the same distance that Owasco is)? I know nothing about the other lakes so any advice as to what launches, depths, setups, speeds, and lures to use would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there a lake that's good for sizable pike(10lbs plus) at this time of the year in the same general vicinity? You guys have some of the best fishing in the country right in your "backyard" and I look forward to my yearly trip out there with great anticipation.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  3. Hello Mike: I know this lake very well, just have never still fished it. I always troll for the salmonoids and lakers. You should fish off of the bluffs towards the point on the east side of the lake. Find some bottom structure, like drop offs etc, then drop down to them. Fish should be active 30' to 70' down right now. You cannot leave this lake without your limit of Lakers, it is polluted with them. Hope you get some decent ones. lot's of 18-22" in the lake?

  4. Hello: The family and I and another couple are coming up to rent a place over the holiday week. I have never fished past Sheldrake Point, any suggestions for the Dean's Cove area? That is our base, my boat has 200 horses so getting down the lake is no issue except for the fuel usage.

    Thanx. The Remedy

hello Splitshot: Left your number in the truck, needed it on the lake, but whatever. My father and I caught a couple 8-10 lakers, but only shaker salmon and no bows or browns. What is up with that?

  6. Could someone fill me in on the tricks with the dipsy divers. I have always fished downriggers and leadcore and am now exploring the divers. I caught two nice lakers on them, but continued to have trouble with them spinning and twisting up and not releasing when you go to real in. The problem seemed to manifest when the divers were rotated on the disc to go out to the side more. Is this causing the spinning and twisting? How tite is the release to be set, I like to troll at 2.5 to 3 mph to get the larger fish who bite quickly out of fear and excitment. Try realing in the larger diver even with the boat off or turned down is a real bear. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated? Also anyone ever caught anything out of Skaneatlees or the clear lake?

    Thanx. The Remedy

  7. Hello: I am taking my father up to Cayuga next week and wanted to know if the Salmonoids have gone down a bit with the recent warm weather? I come up from central PA and will probably launch out of the south end of the lake and head up towards meyers point. Was up over memorial day and was catching some fish down about 20' on purple alewive spoons. Any other suggestions?

    Thanx.

  8. OK.Over the past several years I have had my boat slipped at cayuga lake and lake ontario(oswego).I have never had a problem catching fish. This year we have a slip on the south end of seneca.Except for one good day when we caught 11 pike,we have had next to no success.Had been targeting browns & LL early in the year with limited action. The last few trips we have tried for lakers.Been trolling from watkins glen up past the salt factory then across the lake back south to watkins glen.Have seen some nice bait plumes but only caught 1 laker.Been using flashers and dodgers with spoons and flies along with just spoons.Been trying all different colors.Any help would be much appreciated. Also have yet to find any perch!Water temp on the south end is between 55-60(surface)as of this past weekend.

Hello: Seneca is hit or miss. You should try small Yozuri crystal minnows black top/silver side/white bottom a must. Troll them on black rigger balls back 100' from the weight at 2 mph. Then zig zag and do random stops and starts and keep the baits just above the lakers since they have a tendency to hit up on those white bottom plugs. At worse case just go to Kueka if you want some lake trout action and they are wild there.

  9. I would like to make an attempt at trolling for lakers in Cayuga. We would probably put in at Meyers. Any specific info like locations, depth, spoon or flasher/fly ccombo would be helpful. Also I haave heard that time of day is important, is this only an early am bite?

Hello: Just up there about two weeks ago and fished from meyers down to the south end. Boated a couple really nice lakers(5-7 lbs) but was not targeting them. Try 40-50 ft down in 200 FOW at around two miles an hour with purple alewive spoons 3-4 " length with 75-100 of line behind your rigger. Enjoy and good luck?
