Immediately after launch, we watched one charter boat a large king inside protected breakwater area, then did not see or mark another fish anywhere near mouth of the river (despite numerous boats). After a couple of hours at river outlet, headed north. Waves were challenging, but dipsy hit 50 down in 120. Boated nice 20# king on blue/white Grand Slam bucktail. Marked several between 40-70, then trolled back in, then E/W across river mouth, but few marks and no takers. Unsuccessful lures: green flies, variations of green spoons, and purple/black NBK. Like 10thMTNDave, this was the first king after a frustrating season of learning!

Wife and I out for a beautiful evening. Fair amount of bait pods and a few large fish marked 50-80' down, but no takers for first 2 hours, hence the "head to the surface" decision. Thanks to Chris' I-Bay report yesterday, we (eventually) decided to see if we could hit some steelhead near the surface. Hit 2 on in-line planers with 1oz splitshot ~ 4' ahead of spoon. Both planer hits on yellow/green NBK's. Again taking Chris' info, decided to raise one rigger up to ~30 feet and put the watermelon spoon on a slider - so 10-15' down? - and the 3rd one hit that. Spoons 50' behind planers, and 75' out. Both fish released successfully. Thanks, again, "momay4000" - we were getting pretty discouraged after a couple trips just washing lures. (Wife is bashful, so she made me crop the picture!)

Hey, guys, thanks for the great posts and information! I'm still trying to learn the ropes on Ontario, but I thought you'd enjoy a slight digression for a quick report on the two sturgeon caught last Friday in Oregon, fishing with my brother-in-law. You fish for 12-18" shad in the AM, then you bait them (very large unbarbed hooks), attach 20 oz weights, and drop them on the bottom of the river. First sturgeon was ~7 ft, ~100 lb and the second ~10 ft, 300 lb. That one towed us 1/2 mile downriver and took 1 hr to land. "Keeper" slot size is 38-56", and the steak-size fillets (from a previous catch) taste much like perch. 6 ft heavy rod with Penn 330 reels and 80 lb test. Thanks again for all the updates and info on how to fish Ontario!

Great job with the experience and the telling of that experience, Lou. Many of us on the board can relate to that, regardless of the type of fishing, and that's why we're out there regardless of the success of our efforts. As many on this board have related, your boys will cherish this for the rest of their lives.

Todd Shreve from Dover, PA, with a 28# 11oz king. His partner was from Douglassville, PA - Steve Gerloff.

Spent ~6.5 hrs from Bear Creek to ~2 mi west past Ginna, then back to E of Bear Creek - marked plenty of fish 40-50' down in 100', then came in close in 10-15' of water - with no luck. Started with NK's and flies, then stickbaits in the shallows - not a hit. NE wind could have been a factor - an "interesting" boat retrieve at Bear Creek with the waves crashing on the boat launch - be careful in these conditions! Water temp 42.5-45.9F. "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work!"

Stopped by at the sale today - all the "sale" ones were gone, but the gracious owners made a couple up for me. Great place to do business.

Hi guys (ladies?). Been a stream fisherman for many years, but picked up a nice boat from a retiring friend and now we're "on the water" with much to learn. Have an elderly (80's) dad that I want to get back out there and "complete the circle" from having taught me to love fishing for so many years. The boat is an 18' Mirrocraft rigged out for downrigger fishing, but I have to be wary of the wave height, given his age. Fishing out of Webster.
