  1. I've heard of using a jet diver behind a board, though it won't run as far to the side with that drag on it as normal, even a small dipsy pulls harder than that though and probably wouldn't track to the side well at all.

  2. Mike, Sol said he's willing to do the auction (think he said he had a few to put up), so just need to get the baits rounded up. Give him a jingle. Lmk if u need his digits

Zach- this one will be a club fundraiser, not the bait fund. I'm sure a baker or two will be a huge boost to the lot value! Thanks

  3. Did the same to my rig last fall. Took us an hour to bleed all the air, keep bleeding till you can't push the actuator in, use a 2by 4 to leverage the coupler nose.

A come-along tied to the trailer frame on one side, and run across the nose of the coupler and tied back to the frame on the other side of the boat works well to compress and hold the actuator in and allows you to do it all as a 1 man job.

  4. Not sure how true this is but I've read that large pike will behave differently than small ones, and will go deeper in the summer, towards colder water. Not sure how applicable this would be to a river system where the water is mixing, or to St Law specifically which has relatively cooler Lk O water coming in, but point being: you may indeed need to look to different types of areas than you're currently fishing. Could be holding in deeper water using the slack water behind humps or even chasing baitfish in open water.

Check it out and let us know what you find

  6. There is built in error for non military gps and consequently you are not where it says. You will be close but I have seen the error be as much as 120 feet or more one way or the other.

The use of intentional error was discontinued over a decade ago (which was one of the factors leading to LORAN system being dismantled).

Error is generally no more than 10 ft on modern units (and most times even less). That small remaining error is due to signal degredation and atmospheric issues etc. If its more than that, chances are the WAAS error correction may be turned off or you haven't acquired enough satellites yet.

With the HD maps, navionics are quite accurate. The non-HD are just govt or DEC maps overlaid and tend to be off in both contour and their placement on the map (sometimes shows me navigating up on shoreline  ). Wish they were all HD...

  7. Not for anything but how does one fish for pike on chautauqua lake in the winter? For one, there aren't enough pike even in there to consider it a pike fishery. Second, even if one were to target them, you're liable to catch muskies, which in a lake that doesn't have pike is tantamount to targeting muskies and would get you a ticket by the DEC.

Someone needs to rethink that one.
