The Ganaraska River sounds like a good option. How far north out of Port Hope can you go that's public water? How far up do the fish run? Also, is it crowded with a lot of people fishing?

I am a Colorado fly fisherman who's headed to the Cobourg area (east of Oshawa) to fish the tributaries for what I believe are some big fish (15-20 pounders?). This will be quite a different experience from fishing the streams and lakes in the Rockies.
Can anyone be so kind as to suggest what type and size of flies I might want to use? I hear green is key.
Also, would an 8 pound fly rod used for fishing Bonefish in Mexico be sufficient or should I get something heftier?

I am coming up from the States on Tuesday for 2 weeks & looking forward to fishing the Bowmanville, Ganaraska, or Cobourg tributaries for salmon. Have they started to move up yet?
