  1. My family and I are coming up to Sodus next week on vacation, and I was looking for some hints on fishing the bay for bass or walleye. My 8yr old son would be thrilled to catch catch just about anything while we're there, and I think salmon fishing will be out of the question w/ our 14.5' boat. I'd appreciate any tips.

    Thanks,

    Dave

  2. Hi guys, my family and I are headed up to Sodus Point next weekend for our family vacation. This is our first trip to Lake O. and I am looking for some tips on catching bass, walleye or whatever we can safely chase in our small (14.5') aluminum boat. I have downriggers, but I realize that going out of the bay may not be very safe. The kids aren't picky as long as they're catching something. Thanks in advance, Dave

  3. I couldn't agree w/ you more Sparky, I've been caught out in some bad stuff fishing in the bays in New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland in small boats over the years, and it's no fun at all. I plan on listening to the VHF and weather when we're up there, no fish is worth dying for.

  4. Sparky, I've got the same problem. I have a 14.5' boat with a 30hp. I'm taking our annual family vacation to Sodus Bay in August and I'm hoping we'll be able to safely fish in the bay and near shore. I think we're going to be a little early for the salmon to be staging close to shore so I'm hoping the bass, perch, and walleye will be cooperating.

  5. Remember the Oscar Meyer wiener commercials? How about Big Pecker's Bar and Grill in Ocean City MD? Have no fear, I am bringing my 8yr old son, 6yr old daughter, and the soccer mom up there on vacation in August and I'm not going to let a few Big Weenies scare us away.

Hi gang, I'll finally be making my first trip to Lake Ontario in August for a family vacation. Staying in Sodus Bay and hoping the fishing will be good. I have a small aluminum fishing boat w/ downriggers that I use in the local lakes for hybrid striper and I figure if the waves aren't very big I could try for salmon, but I mostly plan on fishing for bass, walleye, or pike depending on what's available. Mostly just looking to relax and enjoy time with my wife and kids.

Great site here, picking up tips on using downriggers. I plan on getting up to the Big O soon with a buddy who fishes there regularly.
