Good morning all,
My wife and I visited a few years ago and had a very nice trip with one of the local guides but she will not agree to a full day on the lake this time. I know we were fishing VERY deep for lake trout.
I will be fishing from a Kayak or float tube along the shores of Cayuga and Seneca in the early mornings and late evenings. Since my tackle box is full of rubber worms and top-water baits, I thought I might get some local advice before heading up.
I am almost exclusively a (lousy) largemouth bass fisherman so my instinct is to work the shoreline with a shallow diving plug and hit the dock pilings etc. But I know from my limited lake trout experience that if I don't adapt I will go hungry.
Should I bring a net or a book?
I was thinking of picking up a few of the "count-down" or deep diving crank-baits before hitting the water. Also, I see the water temp in July runs about 72F. Waders sound like a good idea but should I plan on insulating them?
Thank you for any advice you can offer.
