We caught them regular without fishing for Lake trout ! " One mans trash is another mans treasure ! I had takers for every fish we caught , the cook from Laos preferred them to salmon ! [ read the country of origin for commercial fish CHINA !! along with the COVID 19 ! ] Do not think that COVID 20 is not waiting for the prime time SARS 17 years ago . Don't we have another local INSECT with a 17 year life cycle LOL !

  2. The 2660 Sailfish is in NC full time along with a Carolina Skiff 198 DLV. I have a Sea Hunt Triton CC that keep in PA that I use on Erie for Walleyes. If it works out, we might bring it up for a long weekend. I do have to go thru all the salmon gear and get rid of it. I have close 400 spoons still in the packages, plus the spoons in the boxes, I wouldn't even want to guess how much we have. Wes looked in the boat one time and said he thought I had more than he did at the shop Every time I look at the piles and piles of tackle, it looks overwhelming and I'm not sure where to start. Oh well, one of these days!

  3. Thanks, brings back a lot of memories. Haven't followed the boards or fishing on lake O much last couple years. Might get the itch and drag the Sea Hunt CC up this summer for old times sake. We will see how it goes. 1st tuna/dolphin trip of the year is 3 weeks away, can't wait to get back to our place in NC.

  4. Haven't fished Ontario for a few years now. Caught this Atlantic out of Olcott. Can't remember the year, but I do know it was the same year Jim on Hawg caught his big Atlantic. This one was almost 18 lb's,  and was such a pretty fish we had it mounted. Caught a 14 lbs and a couple between 10 to 12 lbs as well. We did get an Ontario slam that year too( King, Coho, Steelhead, Atlantic, Brown Trout  & Laker all in same day) After a good couple years ,it went downhill and we might get one or two a year around barley legal size.

  5. The cheaper antenna's usually use rg-58 coax  and are rated at 3db, The better antenna's use RG-8 coax rated at 6db. The higher db rating means higher signal strength. A gain increase of 3dB means a doubling of signal strength: 6dB is a fourfold increase, and 9dB is an eightfold increase. The power of the transmission does not change; instead, it becomes concentrated, much like the beam of an adjustable flashlight can be concentrated from wide and diffused to narrow and bright.  Therefore, a radio with a 6dB antenna will sound like it has a larger transmitter than the same radio with a 3dB antenna. The better antenna's are also coated with polyurethane and use stainless ferrules. for better durability. VHF is line of sight as well, so if you fish offshore a lot and want a stronger signal, go with the better antenna. All radios, are rated at 25 watts max, the antenna is going to be the variable on what kind of distance you will get.  Good luck!

  6. Gotcha, definitely a little bit of ride from Corolla. Go thru the archives of Pirates cove fishing reports.  You'll get a good idea whose names keep consistently popping up. Probably just as close to Manteo as Oregon inlet fishing center. Still should be some Cobia around inshore for a half  day trip too. Good luck!

  7. Mark,

June can be a great time. All the guys you mentioned are good boats. There is another boat out of Pirates cove called the Country Girl that always seems to put there clients on fish as well. We went with them a few years back and had a good time on YFT's. If you are looking for quality trip and save $600 to $900, you may want to think about heading south to Hatteras Village. We have chartered out of there may times in years past. Teach's Lair Marina & Hatteras Harbor all have great charter boats. We went with Runaway( Jay Daniels) out of Teach's and always caught fish and had a ball. The full day costs down there run anywhere from $1400 to $1600 per day(cash). They are much closer to the Gulf Stream so the runs are much shorter. That  saves on cost of the trip and you get more fishing time. Downside is you would have to get up earlier to get there from Nags Head ( approx 50 miles to Teach's) But the savings could be well worth it. The dolphin fishing will still be good at the beginning of June, along with some Yellowfin, blackfin and a wahoo. There will be Sailfish around as well, and if you fish deeper, Blue marlin as too. Not sure about  what the northern boats (Pirate's cove & Oregon inlet) do, but the Hatteras boats will bottom fish for Triggerfish, Black Sea Bass, Beeliners (Vermillion snapper) & Amberjack if the troll bite is slow. We have a place in Hatteras Village and fish out of there a ton. We have our own boats there now. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have, good luck!

  8. Off the market-no longer for sale.

Up for sale is our well kept 2006 Sailfish 2660 WAC. The boat has approx 1380 hours(still using boat) on twin Yamaha F150's. The majority of the hours are from trolling Lake Ontario, I have attached screen shots of the data showing total hours & rpm ranges. The harmonic balancer's (as a precaution) were replaced last year(old ones looked fine) and the engines have been flawless. VST filters and timing belt changed around 900 hours. The marina only sells non ethanol 90 octane fuel and thats what has been used in her. Ran compression test on warm engines with throttle fully advanced on all cylinders on both engines, the numbers where from 190 to 194 psi. She sits on a 10,500 lb tandem axles aluminum trailer. Sailfish boat have a variable dead rise hull at 24/22 degrees that really cut thru the water in sloppy conditions. The boat has been used in freshwater since we purchased it in 2007. Bottom is painted and has been since we purchased. I have also attached the Yamaha performance data which shows fuel burns numbers, weights and boat specs. Our boat gets slightly lower than the posted number, but they are really close. Will sleep two comfortably. The trailer weighs in at 1400 lbs which would put the total weight around 8500 lb on the trailer with under a 1/2 tank of fuel. Boat is docked in Olcott,NY on Lake Ontario and a recent survey has been completed and showing the boat in great condition. Surveyor stated boat is super clean and above average, serious buyers can review report and I will answer any questions you have. Sea trial available for serious buyers, might even throw in a little salmon fishing to boot. Thanks for looking!

Update, Last weekend in NY, last chance to sea trial on Lake O. Boat will be pulled on 08/27/2018 and then headed back to western PA until approx 3rd week of September. Then going to take it to our place in Hatteras,NC. Thanks!

  9. The yacht club puts them out every year for when they do their little races. There are actually four(4) buoy's. If look south of the ones you saw there will be another set in 20/30 ft of water as well. I am sure those things have collected many pieces of tackle over the years. Especially when you get a good rip current going, they can get very low in the water.

  10. Well,  if everyone is in the 31% tax bracket that you illustrated, I don't think a few extra bucks in tax is really going to matter much to an angler in that tax bracket.  Being the effective tax rate on annual income of $120,000 minus deductions is about 10% give or take, plus a couple more percent for local tax. That would mean 2nd place would take home about $585, sounds OK to me.

Man that sucks.. can I ask how does that even happen? No plastic to break on there

Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

The rod holders are mounted on gimbals that slide in the side flush mounts. Wife was fighting a fish that got wrapped in wire fiver. I grabbed the Dipsy and lifted it up as normal. Turned my head to look at her and her fish and heard kerplunk. Still not sure how it happened, never had anything like that  happen in 9 years with that set up.

  12. I think I am going to make alternate plans for this weekend. Here's the current forecast, maybe I can find a deal on a used surfboard

    Thursday Night
Northwest winds 10 knots or less becoming northeast and increasing to 15 to 20 knots overnight. Mostly cloudy. Waves 1 foot or less building to 1 to 3 feet.
    Friday
Northeast winds 15 to 25 knots. Partly to mostly cloudy. Waves 2 to 4 feet building to 4 to 7 feet. Waves occasionally around 9 feet.
    Saturday
Northeast winds 15 to 20 knots becoming northwest and diminishing to 10 knots or less. Becoming mainly clear. Waves 4 to 7 feet subsiding to 1 foot or less. Waves occasionally around 9 feet.
  13. We use reliable permit solutions. They take care of everything for all the states you are going to travel. PA permits are only good for 5 days at a time. Not sure about NY or Ohio. The permit for PA used to be something like $30 if you went to DMV office. Reliable does the whole deal for you and emails you the permit to you, just call them at least a week in advance. Once your in their system, just a quick call and your set. I think they charged me around $55 last time we got one. Will gladly spend $25 extra not to go to DMV. here's their link:

    Good luck

  14. I have twin 2006 Yamaha F150's on my boat. I have over 1300 hours on each engine( bought the boat with approx 130 hours each in spring of 2008). I have used Mobile one high mileage full synthetic 10W30 since day one. The high mileage formula has a few extra additives that are  supposed to be good for the outboard application. Just remember that Yamaha is not in the oil making business, they contract it out to their specs. From my understanding the Mobile One I use exceeds those specs. A five quart jug from Wallyworld will run you around $24 or so. I am also going to give you a filter list for whats easiest to pick up locally for you: They are as follows:

    Alternatives Yamaha F150 Filters:

    Purolator PureOne: PL-10241

    Purolator Premium Plus: L-10241

    Hastings: LF-494

    Baldwin: B-1405

    WIX  51348

    K&N: HP1002

    Mobil-1: M1-102

    Sierra Marine: 18-7906

    Fram PH 3512

I did a bunch of research and have been using the Purolator Pure One filters. I think they do a great job and are readily available at Advanced, Autozone ect.

I have been using this Lucas Marine Full synthetic gear lube. Here is a link on Amazon to what I have been using, But shop around, you can usually find a better deal if you look a little:

    https://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-10652-Marine-Gear/dp/B0068C61UC

And if you ever need to do your water pump  I have found you can get away with up to 3 years in fresh water. I usually go every 2 just to be on the safe side. Here is a listing for the basic service kit for your engine:

    http://www.simyamaha.com/Yamaha_Water_Pump_Repair_Kit_p/61a-w0078-a3-00.htm

SIM marine is a great place to deal with and their service is excellent. Andy Jr runs the place and even lent me a special tool to remove the caps on one of my trim motors when I had to replace a seal.

The above is the stuff I use and have over 2600 hours of real world use to attest to. Hope this helps you out. Take care.

    Frank
