  1. Hi,

Depending on where you are staying , I will try to give some info. If you are staying North(Duck,Corolla,Kitty Hawk,Nags Head) Then fishing out of Oregon inlet would be your best bet. There are two inlets, the 1st one you cross is Oregon inlet. There is a marina right before you get to the bridge. They have numerous charters that run from there. Offshore trips run about $1900 or so for the day plus tips. The inshore will guides will take you inshore(sound side) or near shore(ocean side). The inshore trips that time of year will target  flounder, blues, gray trout, small red drum, cobia & spanish mackerel. They will charge around $450 for a 1/2 day and $600 for 3/4. The offshore bite is going to be mostly Dolphin that time of year with a few yellowfin & wahoo mixed in & there is always a chance for a Marlin. Now, if you are staying further south on the island, say from Avon & south(Buxton,Frisco or Hatteras Village) you can then slide down to Hatteras inlet to fish. There are a number of great guides that fish out of Teach's Lair Marina. Inshore trips out of Hatteras run around $325/350 for 1/2 day and $500/600 full day.  The offshore trips are much cheaper as well. You can go offshore for a full day from around $1000/$1300 a day depending on the boat. Same fish inshore/offshore as mentioned above. The Cobia bite will typically be winding down by then, but there are always a few around. The inshore/nearshore guys will also run you to some of the numerous artificial reefs/wrecks in the area to bottom fish for Amberjacks, Almacojacks, Triggerfish & Black Sea bass. Beach fishing that time of the year offers numerous species, Flounder,Gray trout,Sea Mullet,Blues,Red Drum,Black Drum,Croakers. You can buy an over sands permit from the National Park service. We cruise the beach  looking for "holes" which are breaks in the outer sand bars that give the fish easier access to the troughs running parallel to the beach. Equipment wise, I would take a medium 7' spinning rod and a 10' to 11' surf set up with me. That way,you can cast plastics, jigs& bait to catch flounder, trout, sea mullet ect. Also, have some metal lures ready if some Spanish mackerel or Blues come crashing through. Tons of fun on lite tackle. You can then soak the big rod with fresh bunker or mullet for Drum & sharks. They always catch a few Cobia of the beach every year as well. We always stay at the south end of the island(Buxton,Frisco & mostly Hatteras). If you buy an over sands permit, make sure you take a jack, small shovel,a tow strap and a board to support the jack.We go down around 5 or 6 times a year.We just got back from a week duck hunting & a little bit of surf fishing, had a ball as usual. Here's a pic of the boss fighting a decent shark from the other day. Hope this helps, good luck and have fun!

  3. The surf fishing will be pretty slow on the Northern beaches(Duck,Corolla,Nags Head) this time of year ,except for skates & dogfish. It would be a little bit of a drive, but Buxton & south will give you the best chance to connect on some fish. A SW wind will really helps this time of year. They have been catching some puppy drum(slot red drum), blow toads(puffers=tasty)  blues ,some flounder and a few black drum. Some big red drum( 40 + inchers) have also been caught the last few days at the point and down on Ocracoke. You can soak some bunker on the bottom for some big drum on a 10 to 11 ft surf rod, and then take a 7 ft spinning rod and cast bucktails or curly tails(4" Gulp swimming mullet is my favorite) on 1/2 to 3/4 oz jigs for the smaller drum, blues and flounder. If you are thinking of doing a charter, we go with Jay Daniels on Runaway out of Teach's Lair. We do 3 to 4 charters a year with him and have never been disappointed. BlackfinTuna fishing has been good when they can go and they have pulled a few big bluefin as well.  You can always bottom fish for triggerfish, beeliners (vermillion snapper) and Amberjack if the tuna don't want to play. We go to Hatteras 3 to 4 times a year, it's one of our favorite places to visit.  We are leaving on Tuesday for a quick 5 day trip and will be staying in Buxton for this trip.  Surf rods are all packed and ready to go.You can buy a 7 day OVR permit to drive on the beach for $50 at the Park office. Make sure you take a jack, shovel, board and tow strap if you want to try the beach. We might do a charter if the conditions a cooperate. Hope this helps, have fun.

  4. If you go with the Optima 31 blue tops, you could buy them online from Advanced auto and use coupon code TRT30 at checkout. It will take off $50 per battery. You can pick them up at the store Just do two separate transactions.I'll order one in my name and then one in the wife's. Save you a $100 if that helps. I have used the codes for years, just do a google search for Advanced Auto coupon codes to find other codes.

  5. With the weather forecast predicted, my dad canceled his dock for this weekend. He doesn't want to tow her up for a maybe a 1/2 day on Saturday and he only usually fishes until 10 or 11 on Sundays. So the plan is for him to bring it up the following weekend. Boat is in Northeast PA stored inside and arrangements can be made to see her there if interested.

    Thanks,

    Frank

  7. Just did the same thing a month or so ago. Bought a boat in Virginia. The previous owner gave me his registration card and left the plate on the boat. When I got home I mailed the plate & registration card back to him. I had copies of the bills of sale with me and I insured the boat, motor & trailer for the ride home. Took bills of sale and titles to notary, got my new registrations and plate and was good to go.

  8. Do not have a King on the wall yet.(biggest to date is 35lb 7oz. Would like to get that magical 40 for a mount. I do have 4  other mounts on the wall and they are as follows:

    Steelhead- 20 lb 1oz

    Brown - 17 lb 4 oz

    Coho- 18 lb 5 oz

    Atlantic- 17 lb 1 oz

The Atlantic and Coho were both caught in 2011. We actually thought we had a great Steelhead for the fall LOC as the fish jumped a couple times. Slid the net under it and was thinking we were gonna be leading the LOC steelhead. Was taking the hook out and said "aw crap" the wife was like, what's wrong. I replied, its not a steelhead but that is the biggest Coho I have ever seen. Mount turned out great. Lot of fun memories from that day.
