  1. Best bet this time of year is to hed further north to Ogdensburg or a bit south to Dexter if your looking for eyes. They are around the bay but i cant seem to find them up there until around the 4th of July.

    The first 2 hours were unbelievable, marked over 20 kings in 80 - 85 FOW out by the nuke plant as soon as we got out there. Ended up setting only 2 riggers down because one was always firing for a couple hours. Lost the first fish which was a screamer! Fought him for about 10 minutes and just as he came into sight of the boat he spit the lure. Set up again and fired another screamer. Before 8:30 we had boated 4 kings and lost 2 others. 2 were in the 10-12 lb range and 2 were smaller ones that we released to fight another day. After the wind shifted a bit and started to kick up it slowed down the fishing for us. We searched for a few hours trying to find them again and managed a 10lb brown and 9lb laker during that time. We decided to pack it in so we trolled the shoreline from the plant to Catfish trying to fill the box with browns. We ended up landing 2 browns over 11lbs within 15 minutes of each other around the high rocks. Beautiful Browns with great color! We managed another cookie cutter in front of catfish creek so with a full box we headed in. The morning was the best we have ever had for kings on my boat, especially in the spring!

    Well we thought it would be easy yesterday but it took all day to make things happen. Grabbed a nice 8lb brown right out of the gate in the first 10 minutes and the fish was puking minnows all over the place so we thought they would really be feeding. Kept fishing shallows and managed 1 more brown once we hit catfish creek. Never moved a rod until we got in front of the stack in 50 fow. Waves were to much for my 18ft boat so when we turned to get out of the rough water I nailed a king down 26 over 50 on an NK spoon (NBK). Landed the 10 lber and headed for calmer water. Picked up another brown on the surface in 30 fow in front of the high rocks then trolled back towards catfish. After grabbing nothing we headed for the launch to go into town and grab lunch. back out around 2:30 and headed north and grabbed 1 more brown and lost another. Headed back to the stack when it started to lay down a bit and managed 1 brown in 50 fow (down 15) then moved out to 80 fow to see what we could find. I was determined to get my uncle into a spring king before the day was over and we were running out of time. We dan 35 down over 80 fow and after 15 minutes we had a screamer! After a 15-20 minute battle with numberous runs of 125ft or more we got the second spring king into the boat. By the way it fought you would have thought it was a 25 lb fish but it weighed in at 12. Still a great fight and a great day of playing hookey!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    After the day we had 2 weeks ago, my oldest son and my dad were begging to hit the water again in Mexico Bay so we launched at 8am hoping for the best. After searching for a couple hours we landed a cookie cutter brown than nothing for another hour or 2. After a while we decided to head out in front of the stack to see what we could find in deeper water and marked a couple solid hooks aroung 25-35 ft down. Little while later we were doubled up with a cookie cutter brown and a 9lb King. I have to say we were pretty happy and excited to see the king come to the net. Thinking it was a fluke we decided to keep on trolling in front of the stack seeing if we could mark anything else. 30 minutes later another screemer and my son was hooked into his first king. After an epic battle we got it to the net and were giddy over the 12 lber that laid at his feet. By this time my dad was anxious to get a shot at his first king so we kept on searching. After 45 minutes another screemer took the bait and dad was fighting his first king. Another great battle ended with another 9 lber in the cooler. What a great day when you get to guide your son and your dad on their first kings! We ended up pulling the boat after a little more searching because the rain was coming and we were certainly satisfied with our catch. Persistance paid off and we were rewarded with another memorable trip.
