  1. i'm in the market for two new downriggers and was woundering if anyone had any advice on which brand, model and what makes it the better choice? (some other info) as of right now i have two electric walker downriggers and i'm starting to have problems with one and the other one has some issues, so i'm gonna fix 1 with the other and have three on the boat. i like the walkers but i've heard good things about the others as well and if i'm going to spend the money i figure i should do some research first. thanks for your help.
  2. is this a good deal? $380 for (2) Okuma CV30d with 1000' of 30# stainless wire with 9 foot convector Rods and i would have to install twilley tips for the wire. i found these online and don't know anything about rods for the dipsy divers. if this isn't a good deal or not the right set up for dipsys can someone point me in the right direction on what and where i can get two set ups. also looking for two copper set ups as well. any info on this would be great. thanks
  3. i was thinking about getting a boat slip for for the rest of the year and wasn't sure where it would be better for salmon fishing oswego or pulaski. i usually fish out of oswego but don't do so well with the salmon on the downriggers. is pulaski any better? also, i usually fish salmon river and do very well every year so i don't know if i should stick to pulaski or if it's better on the boat in oswego? any help would be appreciated.
  4. thanks for the info, s mick and mickey finn. i'm sure i'll like it. i just hope it improves my game. thanks
  5. i'm gonna get my feet wet and buy the fish hawk x4 tonight. i hope it's the right one for me. i got a lot of different opinions on the topic of witch one to buy. any last minute help on my disscion would be appriciated. i just don't want to spend all that money and wish i got something else. thanks
  6. what are free slider cheaters on your riggers? and i hear alot about direction that people are trolling in. what direction should i be trolling in if i'm fishing out of oswego? thanks for the help
  7. what is the deadline for Boating License Safety Courses? does anyone know?
  8. I know you should use a flourocarbon leader when fishing for salmon. when i buy my flys for the down riggers they come with about 2 1/2-3 foot of line on them. does this count as a flouro leader? or should you still tie a leader on and if so won't that be to much distance between my fly and flasher? i was told that you only want 16''-24'' of line in between the fly and the flasher won't this put me over the 16''-24''. should you just reline the fly with the flouro? and should you use a flouro leader above the flasher? if so how long.
  9. so does that mean fish hawk? not depth raider?
  10. what is the earliest i can book a charter to go salmon fishing out of palaski? or is it better to go out of oswego?
  11. i also heard you should ground your kicker motor if you have one.
  12. depth raider- is this one of the better brands for checking your depth speed or is there a better one out there? i noticed the posting was locked for the qeustion about the black box and i was intrested in this as well. also, what is the earliest i can book a charter to go salmon fishing out of palaski? or is it better to go out of oswego? i was told to go out on a charter to learn how to do this on my own boat. do charter boat captins mind when people do this? in other words is it alright to ask questions when your out on a charter? i bought a 19' starcraft last year, it has two walker electic downriggers it has a temp. probe on each rigger but nothing for depth speed. it has lowrance depth finder fish finder with gps. i bought 4 downrigger poles. i spent 6days out on lake O fishing with the riggers and nothing. i tryed differt depths, speeds, flys, spoons, spin doctors and stayed along side of charter boats to check my speed. and strike 2. so i put the boat up and went to the river. don't get me wrong i'm not crying i enjoyed every minute of it, but i'm very eager to hook up with one of these bad boys out on the lake. i have no problem in salmon river. i landed 14 kings,2 stealheads and one brown last year. i think i just need to get some good advice and alot more practice in. any input on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks
