Fished the Fair Haven Challenge. It was a beatiful day with some chop. Started in 120fow and trolled NE and had a hit on a dipsy nobody home. Then the other dipsy fired. Handed the rod to my wife and she could not believe how much line those kings pulled. :o 700ft later she landed just over a 20lb king. It was her first on Lake Ontario and her first King  Next we had the same rod go, I think, and Candi reeled it in. Also her first time on Ontario and fishing on a boat. She landed a 10lb Coho. We managed a 8 to 10lb king then and another hit. My wife got to reel in an 18lb King. Pretty slow day for us but to see my wife Jacqueine and Coworker Candi reel in their biggest fish ever was pretty epic to me. Could not be any happier. Sorry I did not weigh my fish in but I saw the line at the weigh in and knew 56lb box wasn't going to do anything. I wanted to meet some of you guys for the first time but I was pretty beat. Nights are just killing these day. I will try and get a short GoPro video up tomorrow. Congrats to the winners!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

Slow day but not bad. We started off with a 14 lb king on a 42nd spoon 90 down. One of my crew members got sea sick right off the bat and she stuck with us like a champ but later she wanted to go in and I know from experience that its not fun when your sick so I lost 3 crew members but all got some reeling time in. So we sought for some big kings. I switched to an all flasher fly setup and my 110 rigger with fatnancys sd/rolling rock took a 22lber. Then shortly after. Dipsy at 250 wonder bread sd/custom blue weenie took a 23lber. We had 1 more fish left for the box and it took awhile but I hit a 130ft and there goes the rigger. 27lber aboard. Good day but I searched for them but the water kept changing so I tried staying ahead of it. If it is slow keep at it. You find em. Hope you guys find them tomorrow.

I decided not to fish the little salmon river challenge and fish closer to home. It was very wet for the first couple of hours and the fishing was very slow. We landed a 8 lb laker to start then a 12 lb king. Bob looked at me and said that was his biggest fish and steve and I chuckled a bit. Later steve landed a 22 lb king on a rigger with DW 42nd spoon down 85ft. As soon as we put him in the cooler 2 dispys fire! One down 300 with a blue custom Winnie and the down 250 with something green. I forgot. Anyways landed both. Bob was 25lbs and mine was 21lbs. All 3 were just absolute screamers mine pulled 751 ft out. Wish I had the GoPro out but I left my waterproof back in the truck.

  4. 30# torpedo 7strand. Standard dipsy no snubber. 30# mono Leader works best for me. It has enough stretch to handle those big hits. As mentioned by Ray, check your knots and wire often. Always and I mean always keep tension on your wire. It only takes a little slack in the wire for it to twist, kink and break.

As far as the reels go. I to started with the mag pros and they got me by until I got my convectors. I do like the convectors a lot but the ones I put on my wire setups are starting to show some wear. A king broke the secondary drag and clicker the other day. I would step up to the catalina or the clarions for the wire rod. At least that's my plan.

  5. Well it been awhile since I been out fishing let alone back to my stomping grounds. I took a coworker out today with her brother and nephew. Got on the water at 9ish out of treman. Setup just N of Myers and trolled N. not much action till I got closer to taughanock. Weeds were only bad S of the plant. No fleas. Dipsys set at 250 to 300 did all the work today. I couldn't buy a bite on the riggers:( flasher flies were hot especially the green crinkle. Biggest laker was 8.60 lbs. 55 degree water between 55 to 67 ft down. Gorgeous day other then a few showers and some big weed mats. Good luck to all who plan to go out this weekend. AES was my hot spot today.
