  1. I have and idea. Save the down rigger money for the fish Hawk X4D. That will give you true depth of the lure. Run the probe on the rigger with the bad counter. That would cover everything and I bet you would be glad you did! I personally love canon riggers and wouldn’t spend the money on the big Johns

  2. We were there yesterday an there was some strong currents in areas. We would be doing 3.1 on gps and probe was 2.1 down 55'. Really need to vary your speeds until you get a hit and note your gps speed. Then target that speed. Varies by direction too.

Good point! It makes all the difference. Before I got my first fish hawk I would listen to the sounds of the down-riggers and it helped me get my speed right. If they are not whining a little your probably going to slow. The X4 is expensive but well worth the money!!

  3. Take a look on the engine where the controls connect and see if everything looks well connected there.

I had the same thing with my honda kicker. Mine has a vacuum controlled assembly that pushes on throttle. I cleaned a the assembly and sprayed some silicon lubricant on the rod going in the the vacuum assembly. Problem solved if you think this could be your issue let me know I can send pics.

  4. A few years ago my boat died after a run from Sampson to Watkins. It stalled when I pulled it out of gear and would not restart. I ended up pulled two of the wires off the coil so there was just power. Then the boat ran fine. In my case it turned out to be the shift cable switch. But hey could be a good way to start trouble shooting.

Great job! I would however suggest you replace the rod holders on the side of the boat with something stronger. If you plan on running dipseys or fishing Lake Ontario sooner of later they will fail. I learned the hard way and the gear I lost would have paid for nice rod holders

  6. The king fishing for me was the worst I have seen.! For the last 10 years I have only been skunked twice both times were this year with Saturday being one of them. Not what I would expect for this time of year. I pulled the boat out and went back to Cayuga. I hope something changes next year but I went out looking for some two year olds and nothing. That does not make me feel good about the future .

  7. I had a great day as well yesterday. Fished solo and did 10 fish in about 3 1/2 hours. All steelhead. 160 to 180 fow and down as far as 70'. Yes I dropped one rigger a little deep hoping that maybe I would get a king to hit but took a nice steelie. instead. No kings for me. I don't think you can go wrong lots of steelhead and some big ones as well. For me green spoons were the key. Great Day!
