Good luck! I may be out fishing south of deans cove on Sunday.

A little high to add this year but may put it on my x-mas list along with the t-top for the boat...
There is no denying it will increase you catch rates! I’ll go out on a limb and say it probably doubles the catch rates for most.

We were there yesterday an there was some strong currents in areas. We would be doing 3.1 on gps and probe was 2.1 down 55'. Really need to vary your speeds until you get a hit and note your gps speed. Then target that speed. Varies by direction too.

Good point! It makes all the difference. Before I got my first fish hawk I would listen to the sounds of the down-riggers and it helped me get my speed right. If they are not whining a little your probably going to slow. The X4 is expensive but well worth the money!!

Get the speed down a little and run the riggers down about 90 feet. run rubber band cheaters up higher to increase your odds just north of sheldrake has been good.

I like to run 2.1 to 2.4 that will get you a good mix of fish. Run slower if you want to catch more fish but most of them will be lakers [emoji4]

Take a look on the engine where the controls connect and see if everything looks well connected there.
I had the same thing with my honda kicker. Mine has a vacuum controlled assembly that pushes on throttle. I cleaned a the assembly and sprayed some silicon lubricant on the rod going in the the vacuum assembly. Problem solved if you think this could be your issue let me know I can send pics.

Yes I had an 840 and upgrade to the x4. When I hook the x4 back up the spring the display was bad so I just hooked the 840 back up with the x4 probe and have been very happy this year. One set of good batteries should last all year for most and it's more reliable in deeper water. Ask around I bet I am not the only one [emoji4]

Do yourself a favor and buy the x4 prob ! It's a much better prob and works perfect with the 840.

No problem. I fish Cayuga often so we will see you out there someday.

A few years ago my boat died after a run from Sampson to Watkins. It stalled when I pulled it out of gear and would not restart. I ended up pulled two of the wires off the coil so there was just power. Then the boat ran fine. In my case it turned out to be the shift cable switch. But hey could be a good way to start trouble shooting.

Thanks guys I owe it to you all taking time to point me in right direction and help me out.

Great job! I would however suggest you replace the rod holders on the side of the boat with something stronger. If you plan on running dipseys or fishing Lake Ontario sooner of later they will fail. I learned the hard way and the gear I lost would have paid for nice rod holders

The king fishing for me was the worst I have seen.! For the last 10 years I have only been skunked twice both times were this year with Saturday being one of them. Not what I would expect for this time of year. I pulled the boat out and went back to Cayuga. I hope something changes next year but I went out looking for some two year olds and nothing. That does not make me feel good about the future .

Decided to give fair haven another shot today before heading to Mexico bay. Bad idea! Fished 7 to noon and could not get anything to go!
-
I do not look forward to the boat traffic in the bay next weekend but still think it will be worth the run
-
Yeah at least I did a few but 4 fish In two pretty long HOT days
-
Was a pretty tough weekend for me out off Fair haven. I was only able to boat 4 . I think it's time to make the extra drive to Mexico bay. Fishing should be good over there .
-
I was having a hard time making up my mind where I was going this weekend deans cove or fair haven . Guess I know now! Thanks guys!

The drive to Cayuga lake state park is not that bad and would be a good bet.
-
I know you said you wanted to fish light lines but I would suggest rigging a couple dipsey diver rods they do a great job but you need good rod holders
-
That's a nice fish! how far out were you fishing? I may be fishing fair haven this weekend and I am looing for an idea on where to start.

I had a great day as well yesterday. Fished solo and did 10 fish in about 3 1/2 hours. All steelhead. 160 to 180 fow and down as far as 70'. Yes I dropped one rigger a little deep hoping that maybe I would get a king to hit but took a nice steelie. instead. No kings for me. I don't think you can go wrong lots of steelhead and some big ones as well. For me green spoons were the key. Great Day!

I have and idea. Save the down rigger money for the fish Hawk X4D. That will give you true depth of the lure. Run the probe on the rigger with the bad counter. That would cover everything and I bet you would be glad you did! I personally love canon riggers and wouldn’t spend the money on the big Johns
