  1. I was out solo yesterday and did 4 for 7. I put two majors in the box 30# and 24# I released 2 smaller kings hoping to put one more big guy in the box.  I had my chance only to lose it at the boat when I tangled the net in a rod holder. It only took a few seconds but while I was working on getting the net free the fish went around the downrigger cable and was gone before I had a chance to get the net under it. Getting them in the net can be tough when you out there solo!  Now I am thinking I need to get rid of that atwood rod holder.

    Any way I headed out at 6 am and fished to 1:30.  Setup in 150 and worked out to 250. Nothing going and a blank screen so I started working my way back in. I fished for 3 ½ hours with nothing. I decided to pull one of the 8†SDs and put on a 11’ flasher down 90. 10 minutes later it fires just inside of 180. I turned east and stayed in the 175 to 180 foot range. I decided to pull the SD off the other rigger and put on another 11†flasher before I was finished putting it down the dipsy fires. For the next two hours it was game on. I had the dipsy out 350 on a # 2 setting with a SD and it took two fish. The 90’ rigger took 4 and one fish on the other rigger down 80. It turned off just as fast as it turned on. I hooked up my last fish the same one I lost when I tangled the net at 11:30. I just could not get anything else to go after that. I was tempted to stay out all day but my arms were tired and decided to call it a day. It was a great day probably the best all year and my first 30# king in about 4 years. I do hope all you guys enjoy the same kind of day. Good luck!

  2. Well its slow but I managed to put two nice kings in the box this morning. One at 110 and one at about 135 both on the same setup. Dipsy diver out 250 with a white glow SD and a homemade green and silver fly.I was tempted to go out deeper with the rest of the boats but I was marking good fish and hated to leave them.  I did give up after just a few hours due to the fact that I got soaking wet and cold.  But hey I knew what I was in for when I left this morning and it still beat work. How did everybody else do? Maybe I will come back up tomorrow if the weather looks better in the morning.

  3. Anybody planning on fishing out of Sampson next weekend? I am thinking about spending the weekend and was just wondering who else would be around. I would also love to hear from anybody that is fishing this week. I have heard that the fishing has been pretty slow and hope that things turn around a bit.

    I went out solo again in the 18’ StarCraft. Setup in 180 FOW and found the temp to be down 80’ I set one rigger with spoons down 90’and before I finished putting the second rigger down the first one fires 15 lb. king in the box. It took 5 hours before I would get another hit. I ended up finishing up the day n 130 FOW with the riggers down 105 & 115 both with sliders fixed at 20 feet above the weight. The second fish hit an NK that was fixed at 95, nice 24lb king. That was good enough for me Based on the radio chatter I was happy with two fish and called it a day.

    Nice relaxing day with a great dinner. I picked up a smoker last year and this was my first smoked salmon. Awesome!

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    Saturday the weather made fishing alone in an 18’ boat kind of tough but I ran out to 185’ it took me almost an hour to get out there but I figured running out and trolling in with the waves was my only shot. I pointed the boat SE towards Oswego and setup a spoon 90’ down on the port side rigger, Spin doctor and fly 80 ‘ down on the Starboard side with the same setup on a port side wire dipsy out 225. On the first pass I went 2 for 2 small kings. Second pass was 2 for 4 with a nice king around 15 lbs. Sunday was a little nicer and I had heard chatter that everything was working in water 200’ to 225’ so that’s where I headed. I setup the same pattern and trolled SE again I hit one small king first thing but nothing for an hour so I decided to keep heading in. Once I hit 160' the rods started going off. I boated 2 out of 4 in the next hour releasing the smaller kings and keeping two in the 18 and 19 lb. range. I lost a much nicer fish maybe 40 feet from the boat on the wire rod but other than that all the bigger fish hit the spoons. Total for the weekend 7 out of 11 in under six hours of fishing! That’s pretty good fishing if you ask me and it was nice getting back up to the big pound. I hope I can get back again soon with some help next time.
