  1. When installing plugs I always use a thread lube of some type.

Any anti-seize will work.  It prevents corrosion from forming between aluminum and steel.

  2. I found 98% deet spray at Dicks one year in a small bottle.   I've used it on the lake, and as far as I could see, the biting flies just thought it was salad dressing on my legs....didn't do a thing.

It also eats car paint....I found out the hard way when I hosed myself down and the over spray from the can hit the side of the car.....

deet works very well for me.

deet eats paint for breakfast and plastic for lunch.  It will weaken monofilament and may affect braid as well.

Get it on the foam handle of a fishing rod and watch the foam crumble.

Do not get it in your eyes.  You will be crying for a long time or until the tears wash it out.

  3. I would use a brass brush and try cleaning the threads first in the hole and on the plug.

I always turn a plug counter-clockwise till the threads drop in and line up.

Sometimes a square helps to get things straight.

Aluminum is fragile at best and if not confident then take it to a mechanic.

Not sure I would do it myself.

    ==================

Happy New Year to one and all.

Some may know me from spoonpullers as I have the same username there.

I see a bunch of familiar faces over here so that's good.

Fishing and hunting are my two passions.

I will fight to the end to keep these rights.

I hope we can share some tips and have some fun doing so.

Best wishes for catching some fishes in 2012.

    Take care.
